The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

I'm basing it off of this quote from Notre Dame's press release

Unless Hockey East is making their schedule around Notre Dame, and other teams will have different schedules, it appears that there will be 1-2 game series each season with each of the other 10 teams in the league. 5 of which will be at home, 5 on the road.

Fine, I'll spoonfeed, but you should feel embarassed. The 10 eastern teams will make trips for a single game to South Bend, and many of the teams will pair this game with a non-conference game. Notre Dame will play an ECAC style schedule sans a travel partner.

Why do you think a scenario wherein BC plays 2 games with no return from BU, then BU plays 2 games with no return against UNH, etc. is the path of least resistance? It's foolish.

Wrong. 5 Eastern Teams (playing two games/trip) will make trips to South Bend. It makes logical sense that Notre Dame will making 5 trips out east playing 5 teams twice. Otherwise, it will be a horribly unbalanced schedule. Did you not read the quote or the article?

It is in conflict with other articles and does not address the anticipated affect of adding a 12th team before 2013.

I think this will be the format for ND, ME, VER, abd possibly NH and all other schools will play one-in-one.

It is what the article says. I have not seen other published articles by other members of the conference nor Hockey East which address a schedule. If you know of other articles of this sort, please post them here.

Now that we've cleared that up, please answer my question.

The irrelevant question? Even if there is a strange Notre Dame-only schedule, it will not affect the rest of the conference playing home-and-homes.

As an aside, thanks for giving me an out. Now, even if I am proved wrong in thinking we won't have a modified ECAC-style schedule for ND, at least I'm not the idiot who projected that there will be a season when BU doesn't travel to UNH or UNH doesn't travel to Maine. That for sure, isn't in the flimsy article you have here.

:p:D:D

So you are fine with Notre Dame calling the shots?

Perhaps they'll rename the conference the Notre Dame Hockey Conference?

I accept your concession. I always think of tangential and illogical topic changes being a concession.

If you are fine with Notre Dame calling the shots and only getting to play your conference mates in your home arena every other year, then I will not argue with you any longer. Enjoy the Notre Dame Hockey Conference.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

I'm looking at this as a great opportunity for North Dakota. Going to be a lot of very good programs looking for quality opponents willing to go on the road. Nothing toughens you up for the tournament like a solid schedule of games against quality opponents on the road or in neutral buildings.

Minnesota likely will not be one of the schools UND plays often. I bet maybe once or twice every 10 years and only if UND plays in Minnesota.

Agreed. Although, I don't think they'll even play that often. It comes down to the facts that North Dakota will not play @ Minnesota if Minnesota does not play @ North Dakota equally, and Minnesota will not schedule a 2 for 2. Given that, the only chance the schools will have the chance to play is tournament play. It is what it is, and I don't think either school will lose much sleep over it.

Agreed. Just the fans and we know where they rate.

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Why exactly will that happen?

Because Hockey East decided to become the Notre Dame Hockey Conference. (also, the only source I have seen that mentions scheduling eludes that this will be the set up, at least for Notre Dame (and if that is the case, then it will create a horribly unbalanced schedule in the NDHC))

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

How many schools are close enough to ND that a NC game could be realistically be scheduled? This isn't the east where everyone is 45 minutes away...

(yes, I know some trips are longer than that)

Re: The new Super League is going down the tubes.

Sounds from the article that Notre Dame only wants 11 teams in the league. That's how you get 5 home series and 5 trips east.

Also sounds like Notre Dame will only play each program once every two years at home and once every two years on the road.

If the above is true, it would stand to reason that the easiest way to make the schedules fair, would be for every other league member to follow the formula [5 home - 5 away series].

Take BC as an example. If BC flies out to South Bend and plays two games at Notre Dame - they won't be able to play every other H.E. team home and home, otherwise they would end up with 11 road games & 9 home games.

Kalamazoo is 1.5 hours away.
East Lansing is 2.5 hours away.
Big Rapids is 3 hours away
Ann Arbor is 3 hours away

Other than that, you are looking at 4+ hours, and you have schools like Miami, Wisconsin and Ohio State

Reason and Logic are not welcome here :p:D:D

Although, in your example, BC would still be at 20 (2 @ Notre Dame, 9 vs other NDHC teams, 9 @ other NDHC teams), but an uneven amount of home/away games.

Perhaps this is the reason behind the NCHC saying no to Notre Dame?
