Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

We just as well should title all of our post " Wait until next year when these players get some experience" and why ? That is all we ever end up saying on here. The players need to mature, get experience, learn the game.Listen, these players are 20 years old coming in and if they can't play the talent they have ,than they don't have talent . If Roque can't keep his team consistent, why have him ?

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

The Laker hockey show is at least worth some good laughs if nothing else. Within the first couple minutes there was Roque using his patented "were right there we just need to get over the hump." Yeah ok dude, whatever you say, hilarious. What's even funnier is some dopes actually believe this nonsense. How bout this one; This Laker team has zero chance of ever accomplishing much of anything with Jimbo & The Gong Show directing things behind the bench. Pretty funny huh! I thought so.

Whats funny is that it says he was tied in league play last year with most goals and when he gets to Lake State, scoring just 5 goals for the season will take a miracle and an empty net.
He's been out for almost the entire season so far with a broken jaw. I think it happened a couple of games into the season, and he just started playing again last week.

Here's an article about him from the pre-season:

It seems so many of the lake State recruits have great numbers before they come here and play and than they just die .Is Roque teaching them a different way to set up shots or shoot. Is Roque telling them to use the goalie as the mark to shoot at and so they do and they hit the goalie everytime. Everytime we get a recruit who put up great numbers in Juniors, they go stone cold at Lake State. Campbell was the player everyone was so excited about getting and 16 games later he has 2 goals and no assist . I know, wait until next season when Campbell has the experience. Who cares if the guy has been playing hockey for the last 15 years of his life,he just needs a bit more experience and he will score like hell frooze over. Something is going on between the juniors and college that these players no longer have the ability to score even wide open shots and that is what is dragging this team down.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

This team gets better every game. A couple more bounces and we would be undefeated. We are doing some really good things. This freshman class is the best class ever and will only get better. This team is snake bit by illnesses and bad luck. The wins will come and there will be a lot of them. The altitude was tough for the Lakers and unfair. The refs were really bad. Lakers really had more like 50 shots each game. Really hard for the smaller schools to compete these days. The other teams have superior stick handling skills.

Waiting for the broadcast from last night to be on the internet but am I close?

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I don't think losing matters to this coaching staff and I think they are thrilled with playing a close game that looks as if they are competitive.

Sm2pk nearly all division 1 players had great numbers in juniors, thus the reason they found a spot on a division 1 roster, especially at the forward position and especially from the leagues that Lake State usually gets players from....the USHL kids may be a bit different story ( but finding a spot in that league usually serves as somewhat of a validation on its own).

How many kids who only put up 20 or so points in a 60 game or so season from the SJHL do you see in division 1 college hockey? Not many. The fact of the matter is that generally speaking, the prolific scorers in those type of leagues are the only ones in said leagues who have a chance to make a go of it in D1...and even those players usually need time to develop due to the much higer level of competition and truthfully even then there is absolutely no guarantee that they will achieve great numbers, this is why you don't see the Michigans, Denvers, BCs of the college hockey universe getting many kids from those caliber of leagues.

As we have covered on this thread dozens of times, the pure truth of it is that with Lake State's resources, our best bet is to take chances on a lot of these high scoring players from lower level junior leagues and hoping to snag any players from the NAHL and USHL that are willing to come here. Its far from the ideal recruiting situation but its what we are left with. If there is another plausible strategy for recruiting, I certainly don't see it. The only way this cycle will break is if a Laker team overachieves and gains more attention on a national level to snag the attention of higher level recruits or possibly that the new facilties will help draw more recruits. I wouldnt give this freshmen class up for dead yet... they have played very well this season and even though it has not transferred onto the scoresheet much, their class has the highest amount of players on this team and I will glady argue with anyone who disagrees (other than the 3 trolls of course) that this team is the best on-ice product that this university has produced in the last 4 years, so clearly we are onto something. They have beaten good teams, tied great teams and in almost all of their losses have been very competitive, which is a stark contrast to the past when they were getting blown off of the ice by good and great teams and only beating the decent teams once in awhile...This team is making progress and although it is frustrating to wait for this progress, in the real world a small time university has to live with making only small advances at a time.

Aside from this, if you are going to go give the freshmen class a hard time for not scoring, don't start with Campbell because as I mentioned, he has the highest goal total of any freshmen, even though it is only 2...I truly believe that this class is different and that these kids will get their numbers, anyone who has seen this team play a few times can see that these freshmen are not far away..

Excellent comments, I couldn't agree more. Well put Anchors!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Why don't we just throw in the towel........

AnchorsAway said things are challenging, not impossible. Nobody's giving up. One of the things that I like about this year's team is that they do not throw in the towel.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Not the prettiest win, (okay tie really) but I'll take it. Nice to see Power get the winner in the shootout, hopefully that will get him going since he was really struggling.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

They need to play a lot better than what they did tonight with Bowling Green . I hated to hear Wilson say in an interview with Crawford that he is excited about the second half of the season and how they should be better. Brian, you still have the first half of the season to finish and the team needs to play better now and win games and points. Everyone seems to always look down the road with this team. Start looking at each night and each game now and get excited about the ones you have to play now.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

What a garbage game. The Lakers looked slower than usual and totally uninterested. I'm sure Propaganda Minister Crawford had a different take on things. Being Jimbos chief cheerleader requires that of him. When will the administration look at a half empty arena that's quiet as a library and the lethargic product on the ice before they finally act. How bad does it have to get? Please administrators help save Laker hockey and please boot Jimbo & The Gong Show.

BJ, if things are so bad, why do you keep going to the games?

In Brian's defense, the second-half begins for the Lakers after next weekend. They don't play in CCHA action again until mid-January. So I don't think Brian is looking past either BG or WMU, but simply stating the second-half is always time for renewal, if needed.

I thought the interview showed just what a quality person BMW is. Though struggling, he still puts team ahead of all else, and is firmly behind KK. He readily admits his struggles, and calmly stated it is him, and only him, that can get his situation back on track. No blame game, no petty jealousies.

That's a lot of maturity for a college player.

With this team it is always next series, next month, next half of the season, and we are looking forward to the next recruits for the next season. I didn't get Brians belief that between this month and next month there would be a big difference in how they play. How can you be excited for the second half of the season when the team seems to be struggling with the first half. This team needs to play every game now as if there is no second half of a season and if the difference between a team struggling to a team playing so much better is the month of December to Januuary , doesn't make any sense .

I just felt as if I was listening to Roque in that interview and the team is just a bounce away,a break away,a powerplay away from turning the entire team to a winning season . Prove now this half of the season that this team can move up the standings with 3 wins in it's last 3 league games in December.
