Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

BJ, be honest: you were cut from a squirt travel team, and never quite got over it. At thirty-five, it still stings.

That's the underlying reason for all the hate, isn't it?
How come you have so much hate for the Lakers? What did they ever do to you Neil? It's because of people like you who have blind devotion to a bumbling coach and his incompetent staff that keeps this team in the toilet. I however am fond of the Lakers and firmly believe that the coaching staff is the weak link. I want a coaching change to help a team that I like. You want the status quo of a coach who is a proven loser to keep this team on its losing ways. Boy you are a real Laker hater, through and through!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

How can you be excited for the second half of the season when the team seems to be struggling with the first half.

The schedule is more difficult the first half than the second this season. Last year it was the reverse. I think that is where some of the rosy outlook comes from.

I have no dog in this fight. If Roque needs to go, he'll eventually go.

What I care about is the program, overall. And believe it or not, there is potential with this team. KK is a very solid goalie. The freshmen are playing above and beyond their experience on many nights. What bogs this team down is consistency. Jim and his staff know it. They are not blind to the fact. They also know it is their job to find and instill that consistency.

Have they've been given ample time to do so? Perhaps, but it's not for me to say.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Last night was a very entertaining game for the fans.

This team is just a bounce away from something big.

Bowling Green played an excellent road game and the Lakers need more puck luck because they should have won the game by 8 or 9 goals.

The boys are working hard and we are seeing good things out there.

It was a huge win for the Lakers to defeat the Falcons and win their 4th straight game at home.

The crowd was bigger than the announced attendance or sounded louder.

This team gets better every game and the wins will come.

All the Bowling Green shots were fairly easy shots while we peppered the net.

Clearly the team rallied around Hobbins being in the lineup.

I guess we can agree on one thing anyhow. There is no doubt this team has ample talent. That is why some people are very frustrated. Do they have enough talent to win the league? No, but 4-6 should be doable. Look at the team; Kapalka looks promising in goal, freshman Lain, Jean in particular to me look promising, Trottman is one of the best looking defenseman LSSU has had in many years, and the skill of Monardo and Schofield cannot be questioned. These above mentioned players are also surrounded by a decent supporting cast, guys like Will Acton among others. So the question is then why has this team, to many, underperformed? That's where the debate begins.

This post pretty much sums up my feelings about Laker hockey right now.

Last night was a tie, not a win. There is no way the Lakers should be trailing the last place team going into the 3rd period on home ice. Bad bounces or not, last nights performance was absolutely pathetic. It was pretty much like the Friday night game against Northern last month. Nobody went to the front of the net for rebound opportunities or to screen Eno on first shot opportunities.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

The lakers are not ready to play half the time they take to the ice. I am beginning to ask myself, who is the worse coach between Borek and Roque . Players have to be ready to play and in shape to play and motivated to play . You want fans in the stands ? Give them a reason to be there.

Perhaps Francis has a new girlfriend and that is what is putting BJ/Squid/Serum in such a sour mood....

Why don't we just throw in the towel........

Lakers sweep the Bowling Green Falcons!

Sounded like exciting hockey for the fans

This team just gets better and better every game.

For those in attendance was it as exciting as it sounded?

Way to go Lakers a sweep was needed and full speed ahead to the second half of the season.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Another tie against the last place team at home. And yes it's a tie, no matter how many times Crawford waves his pom poms and calls it a win. When will the administration look at this disaster and take action. Do they want nobody at the games? The attendance figures for this weekend should get the administrations attention. The Lakers are falling into irrelevancy in the area. There is no buzz about this team. Good job Jimbo!

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Great game by Kapalka, again. He made some huge saves and really held his ground. He will probably get CCHA goaltender of the week coming up. Too bad the Lakers offense didn't support him this weekend, but Bowling Green did play some great defense.

Lakers definitely need at least a split against WMU next weekend.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

The big moment of the game was with about 4:00 left in the 3rd. The puck was clearly still loose when Cassiani put in the rebound, but the ref was not in the correct position and blew the play dead.

That might of cost the Lakers a valuable point. That was definitely horrible officiating.

Also believe it for not, the Lakers have won 4 out of their last 5 shootouts dating back to last season.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I am at a lost why Crawford and Roque are so excited about the second half of the season . Do they actually think December to January is going to bring about a huge change in this team. In their last 3 games the Lakers have managed 3 goals and if it were not for the goaltending of Kalpalka, the Lakers would probably have 3 loses. Offense, offense, offense, powerplay, powerplay, powerplay. Unless the lakers can produce anything in these 2 areas, second half of the season will be the same as the first half. Struggle to score and win games and put together a powerplay that produces nothing.

Setting up a system to make one favorite player shine doesn't pay off in the long run.
It's been true for four years, and at the end the team pays the price, and even the pets don't benefit.

What system have they set up for one player ?

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

The Lakers pulled 4 points out of a weekend where they did not play their best hockey, 6 points would have been ideal but the ability to win a shootout 2 nights in a row is something the Lakers have not done since the shootout was implemented. Barring an injury I don't see BMW having a chance to get the starting job back...what KK is doing is nothing short of remarkable, 8th in the nation in save percentage, 3rd among freshmen (and one of the two freshmen ahead of him has only played 4 games, the other plays for a powerhouse in Denver) and is behind only FSU's Nagle and UNO's Faulkner in shutouts....he has been the story of the season in Sault Ste Marie thus far, with the other big storyline being the transformation of Monardo into one of the best young playmakers in the league...even though much of the season remains to be played, with the Laker's position in the standings we are getting to the point where every CCHA series that comes down the turnpike becomes the biggest series of the season and next weekend's trip to Kalamazoo is no exception...Western is a slightly better version of BG, a much maligned program that has found new life under a new coach, it will be a stiff test for this Laker team. A resurgence in the scoring column by veterans like Acton, Nehring, and Cassiani would go a long way towards helping the Lakers hop on the bus from K-zoo with 5-6 points.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Offense and the powerplay have haunted Lake Sate for years and unless there is a huge change in how they come at those 2 issues, expect to see pretty much the same play all season. Kalpalka leads the CCHA teams in save per-centage.
