"The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Offense and the powerplay have haunted Lake Sate for years and unless there is a huge change in how they come at those 2 issues, expect to see pretty much the same play all season. Kalpalka leads the CCHA teams in save per-centage.
You can't have the cake and eat it.
What you say makes sense, and it is a logical result of the coach's choices.

How dare some of you people continually run down the Anzalone name. The man that built your program into the once mighty power should be revered not ridiculed. Then you want to even include Francis who is the youngest Division I hockey broadcaster ever?

Do you people up there have no shame? I hope it feels good and makes you feel better about the Lake Superior hockey program because in reality you should direct your attention elsewhere. You people are not worth it and am tired of the relentless attacks and vitrial against the Anzalone name. You people should be ashamed and embarrassed! Shame shame.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Wow that Laker hockey show sure is a good hour of entertainment. I tell ya I laugh harder and harder at those two goofs every week. Tonight Cheer Captain Crawford was waving his pom poms like never before. And old Jimbo was as happy as ever about the state of Laker hockey. I wanted to call and remind those two nincomepoops that the Lakers just tied last place BG at home. Twice. But I didn't want to burst anyone's bubble. So I guess then congratulations are in order to Jimbo & The Gong Show on another great weekend of Laker hockey. Good job guys.

Yeah, they managed to score two goals in an entire weekend against a team that was giving up 3 goals per game. A whole lot to be positive about there.

This is an important point you make here. The fans and especially the coaches and the players have to know that they are not going to win very many games against other teams when they can't find the net on a last place team and a team that gives up 3 goals a game. The coaches and the players have to rethink the offense and the powerplay and need to learn a system that they are able to generate more offense and learn to play the powerplay with more efficiency .

Lack of offense is not a new thing, sm2pk. The last time the Lakers were a top 5 team in CCHA scoring, Jason Sessa and Joe Blaznek were on the roster.

Exactly, and if they can't change that fact,it will always be a tough season for the fans.

The Lakers have scored 42 goals so far this year which is an average of 2.33 per game. The defensemen are accountable for 11 of the 42 goals which means that the offensemen have only scored 31 goals for the team.

Subtracting Monardo and Schofield from the offense numbers, the Lakers offense has only scored 17 goals, which is basically is less then one goal a game from the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I understand the reason why the Lakers recruit from certain leagues but I also understand that until such recruiting practices change, the offense will never be there, nor a successful season.

B.G. is a young team that shows some real promise. I would not expect to see them in the basement for very long. It's also interesting to note that they are more prone to recruit from the USHL, AJHL and the BCHL.....leagues that tend to be stronger than the traditional Laker recruiting grounds of the OPJHL and to a lesser extent the NAHL.

Given B.G's past financial problems, is it reasonalbe to assume that their recruiting budget is not all that much different than what the Lakers have at their disposal?

I question what a new coaching regime can achieve but I will say that Jim and company must get out of their little comfort zone and begin beating the bushes in other areas of the continent.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Roque has got to let the offense play and trust the players that they know when to shoot and how to shoot. Too many passes at times when they should have shot and to many shots when they should have passed . They have to attack the net and go after rebounds and run interference with the goalie they are shooting at. Hockey is up close and personal and the offense needs to be in the face of the opposing goalie as much as they can be. Let the players do what they know how to do best and go with their strengths and let them play.

B.G is a much larger school with much more funding as a whole, and although i don't know this for certain, I do believe that the situation regarding BG's was that of whether they should keep the program going or not, not having to do with slimming the budget...i.e. we keep the program and it's $ x-dollar amount expense or we cut it completely..not necessarily cutting down the funding, and i'm guessing that "x-dollar amount" is a much higher number than what LSSU is toting...Also BG is a much more "complete" school, D1 in all sports including football and having a much much higher student population ( I know of a defenseman on BG's team that played in the USHL and had full-ride offers from NMU, FSU, and BG and chose BG because they had "the most girls" and no i'm not kidding)...Schools like Lake State will have to become more successful than the WMU and BG's to get these type of commits to overlook things like that...of course we may not reach such success which may not change until we improve recuiting levels...which may not change unless we reach a higher level of success..which may not change unless we improve recruiting levels...etc. Until something drastic happens we have to keep hoping that we hit on enough diamonds in the rough during a given 4 year period to go on a few postseason runs....it's not much of a hand but when your chip stack is shorter than everyone elses, you're forced to go all in and hope for the best right?

No question that B.G. is a much larger school but I wonder if they really place that much of an emphasis on their hockey program in the over-all scheme of things concerning their athletic budget. I would not be surprised to find out that their hockey team is as "limited" as the Lakers concerning things like recruiting. You are right though in that B.G. is a much more "complete" institution and that does go a long way in inticing players into the fold.

The problem is that the large majority of D-1 hockey teams are from "complete" schools and the question I've been asking for some time is that can LSSU really compete against them anymore. Sadly, the last ten years suggest no.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Apparently none of the games on the Canadian road trip will have radio broadcasts. Why is that? Budget reasons?

There are several reasons for this; First Crawford has too many cheerleading practices during that time frame. Far too many to cancel. Secondly I'm pretty sure that it would be cost prohibitive to bring his semi truck full of hair care products along on this trip.

BJ, you're pretty infatuated with Mr. Crawford. What happened, did you apply for his job and not get an interview? Or are you jealous that your boyfriend Francis is still not announcing?

I know of a defenseman on BG's team that played in the USHL and had full-ride offers from NMU, FSU, and BG and chose BG because they had "the most girls" and no i'm not kidding

The solution seems obvious...you just need more girls.

Francis is doing just fine thank you very much! How dare you keep running down the Anzalone name. You should be ashamed of yourself. Keep rewarding mediocrity and 10th place finishes and remember what it was like when Frank Anzalone was coaching National Championship teams for you people and your college.
