Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Barczuk needs to be benched and the Lakers desperately need to hire a coach who can work the powerplay to some success. Sounds as if the Lakers ran out of gas and Western was in better shape. Roque needs to call some coach somewhere and ask why he is having so much trouble with powerplays and if he doesn't,going to hurt the team every game.Roque, swallow your pride and make some phone calls to other coaches and have them look how the powerplay is run by your team .

Notre Dame's power play is worse than Lake State's. Do you think Jeff Jackson is calling up other coaches and asking for tips? Ultimately, it's up to the players to execute. Offense, whether on the power play or not, has been a struggle to say the least.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Ugh, had Barczuk had not taken that major penalty, it would of been a totally different hockey game. It all went downhill for the Lakers from there. WMU cashed in on their opportunities, the Lakers probably would of choked like they usually do.

Six years coaching and six years no powerplay, best call someone.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

From what I could easily snag from ccha.com:
2010-2011 12.6%
2009-2010 15.9%
2008-2009 12.9%
2007-2008 15.1%

What compounds the situation is that even though Lake State isn't taking many penalties, their PK% is last in the league and they have given up 5 SHG's already.

I don't see a problem being frustrated, but I also don't see a phone tree being the difference. The coches know what isn't working and they are trying to make it work. Sometimes it just takes the right combination of players in the right spots. Maybe Lake State doesn't have that power play 'quarterback' that makes everything click.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Freddie, did you stand behind the coach they fired this past season or did you want to say nice things all the time and keep the guy ?

Apples v. Oranges.

1. Nobody was 'fired' last season. Dennis Williams (an assistant at the time Scott Paluch resigned) was given the title of 'Interim Head Coach' for the 2009-10 season...with the CLEAR understanding that there would be a nationwide search for a permanant head coach after the season...and that Williams would get consideration for the position. He was considered, as were several others, Bergeron got the job.
2. YES I did support Williams when he was here, and YES I did say nice things about him...and still do. For the record, I think he did a great job considering the circumstances...and I wish him well.
3. There was a vocal contingent here who thought Williams should have got the permanant job, but the administration decided Bergeron was the right man for the job. Now he's our guy, and I support him.
4. If that 'vocal contingent' were still whining, 2-3 years later..."We miss Willy", and redirecting every discussion back to why hiring Bergeron was a mistake...well they'd sound just as silly and counterproductive as BJR and TS.

I think Barczuk should sit for the rest of the season, or at least until he can convince Roque that he can play without taking so many penalties that hurt the team. Barczuk has decent speed and plays with a lot of energy, which are nice attributes to have, but he lacks discipline. I went to Saturday's game and the major penalty he took killed the Lakers.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

Great job on a stellar first half for the Lakers and this administration with 6 wins and a 9th place position in the league standings. Vastly improved over their 10th place finish and first-round exit from the playoffs a year ago.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

This team is going to win a lot of games this year and keeps getting better with every game and it is unfair with being a small school and it is not the same as it was 20 years ago in recruiting and the budget and the other teams have superior stick skills and skilled athletes and we have to keep finding these diamonds in the rough and we just need a couple more bounces and we are right there and we have played well in every game and the power play will come around and we will score more goals and the attendance will pick up and the boys are working hard and doing the right things and the wins will come.

After 5 1/2 years the Laker hockey program is solid as a Roque.

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

the first half is over and the Lakers are in a tie for 7th place, their next 6 series are against teams that are from 4th-last in the standings so the Lakers will control their own destiny playing the teams they will be fighting with for playoff seeding, that is all any team can hope to ask for...it is up to them to decide where they will be sitting come playoff time..Go Lakers!

Well then I guess the Lakers have them right where they want 'em. You watch this team is gonna be a force to be reckoned with the second half. They might even finish in ninth place. That will show the critics and the naysayers.

You usually use your "Truth Serum" alias when making posts like that. You're slipping.

Here's the thing Truth....no poster on this board ever called for the termination of Anzalone. In fact, I believe that many of us here were strong supporters and were quite surprised and upset when he was fired. I know that I really enjoyed his second tenure at Lake State just from a pure entertainment perspective. He really was/is a unique character. I always felt that his strengths were his honesty, intensity and transparency. I also felt that his main weaknesses were his honesty, intensity and transparency.

You see, sometimes he was too brutally honest when the best course of action would have been to perhaps blunt the cold hard truth a bit. Intensity is often needed to be a successful coach but there are occasisons when a much softer demeaner is the better course of action. I always admired Frank's genuine character. You always knew where you stood with him. Unfortunately for Frank, though, there are people at Lake State (and everywhere for that matter) who liked to have their butts kissed and told how right they are even when they are wrong. Frank couldn't do that and as a result he made some enemies in the administration.

I actually miss Frank as a coach and do wish he was still here but he is not and I, as a fan, have moved on. Yes, I understand that the Lakers powerplay is horrible. Yes, it drives me mad to see an unconditioned team blow the games in the third period (This has been addressed this year though). Yes, I would like to see some more jam from the players. I also know though, that Jim is a good coach in his own right. He motivates the players in his own way and he works just as hard as anyone who has ever steered this Laker ship, perhaps more so!

All I am asking of you Truth is too finally give up yourself and move on. If you truly cannot stand Jim, then please do not take it out on the Lakers or their fans. We know the problems that are out there and we do not need to be reminded of it constantly. I understand that it may pain you to say anything positive about the Lakers so please keep your criticism constructive and perhaps say something that we are not seeing, rather than repeating yourself post after post.

Believe it for not, the Lakers are just 6 points from 4th place. If the Lakers can get hot and win like 5/6 games in January, the Lakers might be in the thick of the CCHA first round bye race.

Here is a link to an interview with Andrew Dommet where he talks about his scholarship. He apparently also received an offer from Ferris.

The press release has Robinson as being from Hamilton, ONT, but I think he is a New Jersey kid who is just playing there. We had one kid from New Jersey come here before and it worked out pretty well, what was his name? :)

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

I just don't want to hear what great players and scorers these guys are and than get to Lake State and scoring becomes a rarity .

Re: "The Lake Show" - LSSU Laker Hockey

In 5 1/2 years this administration's record is 78-101-34. The first two years, under Frank Anzalone's players and recruits and rebuilding program, this administration was above .500 and since then, this administration has won 42 out of 134 games. 42 out of 134 games in the past 3 1/2 seasons.

Many of you people want to take Franks record when he was rebuilding a decimated hockey program and justify keeping your current coach and administration. After 4 years under Frank Anzalone, the former athletic director and current head cheerleader for this administration and coach, was part the group that ran a good man out of town and a man that built your little college's once proud program into national champions once as a coach and three times overall because of Frank Anzalone. The team was turning around but the powers that be thought otherwise and the coup was launched.

5 1/2 years later are you people impressed with the results.

Frank has his team 3 points out of second place and is building a solid program once again, this time in Quad City, as he has done in the past and he will always do as one of the best pure hockey coaches in the country and an even better man in general. Just making sure that...
