The I don't want my news here thread...

Re: The I don't want my news here thread...

Honestly thought this was where bu fans went to try and throw stories detrimental to their hockey team and school under the rug.

Re: The I don't want my news here thread...

I need to read more of the WCHA threads. You guys have the best posters. I feel like I'm missing out on the best of USCHO.

** Still waiting on a story for "Bike-Gate" **

Oh wait, you mean that you got to assault someone to get headlines? Awwww shoot! Back to the drawing board...

Re: The I don't want my news here thread...

I should probably go with a snarky response as so many of my fellow posters have done before me, but I'll give you a serious response just for the sake of being original.

You expect a website devoted to U.S. college hockey to ignore one of the best players in U.S. college hockey getting kicked out of one of the most prominent programs in U.S. college hockey?

It's due to western bias.

Complaint:

The evening news is a place where the talking heads greet us with the prerequisite "Good Evening" and for the next 30 minutes, tell us why the evening is anything but good!

Count me as one person who doesn't need a fix of negativity (particularly) in the hockey world...

So when I see the headliner with the BU kid, all I think of is the "gritty" reporter digging for some good dirt!

Dear USCHO, I really like this site...but (in my opinion) leave the investigatative reporting to the evening news.

If you posters are like minded, join this thread to show USCHO we can do without the negativity. Because, afterall, we get enough crap from our media as is.

I see your point. However, unfortunately this type of news generates page hits and page hits translate into advertising and advertising means $$$. So, I think we're stuck in a world where people like to watch (or in this case read about) a good train wreck.

Are you ****ing kidding me?
The kid was one of leading point-getters in the country, he played for BU, and he got kicked off the team. Would you prefer that USCHO just ignored that this player suddenly disappeared from college hockey? Or have them acknowledge that he was dismissed from the team, and then withhold what they know about why he was dismissed?

If that happened I'd be among the first to accuse USCHO of trying to sweep the story under the rug.

Um, I think you guys are on the same page. JDUBBS is understanding the point with whatever his name is in accusing USCHO of only focusing on the bad, which they don't. JDubbs also says that it's a ridiculous point.

I don't think we are on the same page at all.
He said he sees the original poster's point...and I say there was no legitimate point there.
He also says that USCHO is just following the dollar. I don't think it has anything to do with money or advertising revenue. It has to do with journalistic integrity and performing the job that USCHO aspires to perform.

Focusing on bad. Whether or not it's bad, it's a story. Both parties agree on this.
USCHO muckraking: top scorer on a top team. That's a story. Unfortunately it in a bad way. It's not digging deep.
It is about the dollar, but in this case, it is justified, since it's a real story.

jl says it's all about muckraking. JDubbs gets that point (my view is "focus on bad, not report on good"). I can see that point. I don't agree with it, but it's a point that can be brought to the discussion. Do I agree with it? Not in this case, but it's a point that comes up and needs to be addressed/

Re: The I don't want my news here thread...

This is a pretty poor example to use to try to make that point.

USCHO has TONS of feel-good and positive content.

It's not as though they are continuously beating the drum on this story. As far as I can tell, USCHO has posted exactly 1 article dealing with the situation. And hell, the vast majority of that article was lifted verbatim from a BU publication.

If USCHO didn't recognize the story at all, they would have failed in their mission.
