The I don't want my news here thread...

Re: The I don't want my news here thread...

Can we please find a way to blame it on the Big Ten?

Are you ****ing kidding me?
The kid was one of leading point-getters in the country, he played for BU, and he got kicked off the team. Would you prefer that USCHO just ignored that this player suddenly disappeared from college hockey? Or have them acknowledge that he was dismissed from the team, and then withhold what they know about why he was dismissed?

If that happened I'd be among the first to accuse USCHO of trying to sweep the story under the rug.

Did I say that? I was merely explaining to the OP that bad news sells, regardless of what type of news it is (sports, politics, etc..) and that is why all media outlets cover it as much as they do. I wasn't expressing an opinion one way or another, other than to say that it's unfortunate that there always seems to be so much bad news to have to cover.

And unfortunately, though not as much in this case, media outlets tend to beat bad news into the ground because, as I said, train wrecks sell. Are you saying you didn't get the least bit annoyed by HOW MUCH coverage the Bonds steroid scandal got (primary topic of sports radio for months), or the Favre texting scandal, or the Kobe Bryant sex scandal, etc...

Never in my comment did I advocate that they sweep anything "under the rug" or not report bad news. All I said was that bad news sells, and unfortunately there often seems to be bad news to sell and the media sometimes beats their coverage into the ground.

And even then, I never said the media should or should not do what they do. I only said I think the fact that they spend SO MUCH time on the bad news and less on the good was "unfortunate". And again, I was speaking about the media in general because my point was about the media in general.

So instead of jumping down my throat and putting words in my mouth, perhaps you should ask questions and try and understand my point of view first. My God.

I don't think we are on the same page at all.
He said he sees the original poster's point...and I say there was no legitimate point there.
He also says that USCHO is just following the dollar. I don't think it has anything to do with money or advertising revenue. It has to do with journalistic integrity and performing the job that USCHO aspires to perform.

No, you clearly don't understand my point at all. You read into my comments what you wanted to read and jumped to conclusions I never made.

And yes, USCHO does a fabulous job of reporting on the feel good events in this sport, and for the most part doesn't get bogged down in dragging out the controversial stories to capitalize on people's fascination with good controversies. And I, for one, am thankful for that. Report the news, good or bad, and follow up with any significant updates. However, we don't need three months of front page opinion pieces on the subject and daily briefings on every minor development in the story. And unfortunately, with the media in general, that is what we often get. Why? Because people keep reading it.

So now we have a thread in the D-1 forum in order to complain about the media in general, because we all agree that USCHO did the right thing by reporting this story and overall does well at balancing its reporting of the good and the bad. Makes sense.

At most, move it to the cafe. Better yet, delete it.

Re: The I don't want my news here thread...

Complaint:

The evening news is a place where the talking heads greet us with the prerequisite "Good Evening" and for the next 30 minutes, tell us why the evening is anything but good!

Count me as one person who doesn't need a fix of negativity (particularly) in the hockey world...

So when I see the headliner with the BU kid, all I think of is the "gritty" reporter digging for some good dirt!

Dear USCHO, I really like this site...but (in my opinion) leave the investigatative reporting to the evening news.

If you posters are like minded, join this thread to show USCHO we can do without the negativity. Because, afterall, we get enough crap from our media as is.

Complaints because someone is doing *gasp* ACTUAL JOURNALISM?!

There are threads on this board that DON'T go on tangents?! I'm shocked. :D

Talk to whomever started the thread. I could care less one way or the other. I regret even commenting.

There better be some top notch investigative journalism to explain why whatshisname was just kicked off of UNO's team!

Alegations made about prominant sports figure... Penn State starting hockey... Trivino goes to Penn State for last season after sitting out a year... Penn State is in the Big Ten... The Big Ten harbors sports criminals....

That's a stretch, but maybe it could be the fault of the BI6 afterall?

Isn't this Trivino's 4th season?
