I have a feeling DU leapfrogged Wisconsin for #5 and the Badgers dropped a spot to #6. After that everyone stays as from last year.

Last season's top 6
#1 Michigan - 475.5292 Points
#2 North Dakota - 414.1636 Points
#3 Minnesota – 397.684 Points
#4 Boston University - 345.005 Points
#5 Wisconsin - 334.9305 Points
#6 Denver - 333.3811 Points

I expect you are correct. My guess is that UW increased by about 5 pts and DU increased by about 7 (based mostly off UMD winning the NC and DU making the NCAA while UW didn't). Both will be in striking distance of BU next season for #4. UND will have extended it's lead over MN for #2 and closed the gap on UMI a bit.

Couldn't have closed the gap too far on MI. DU may very well be in striking distance of BU this year, though missing the FF probably will keep BU ahead slightly.

UND will get a boost for having a very good record all-time vs. UMD. Why do you think Tech got more points in this list than wins this year?

Plus UND won their conference playoff championship which Michigan did not do.
I was thinking that UND might have closed the gap by ~10 points or so.

Michigan's record isn't as good as UND's record against UMD but they will probably still get a boost from it.

They only teams UMD is close to 0.500 against are Alaska Anchorage, Nebraska-Omaha, Colorado College, Mankato State, Bemidji State and St. Cloud State. Without looking, I think UMD is above 0.500 against UAA, Bemidji, Mankato and UNO. Everyone else in the WCHA has a 10 to 60 game advantage in the win column. This will happen when you're a small D2/D3 school and you start a D-1 program in a region and in an era dominated by Michigan Tech, Minnesota, Michigan, Denver and North Dakota.

Colorado College and, strangely, Michigan are the only original WCHA team that UMD is even close to 0.500 against (79-84-7 and 18-23-1, respectively).

UMD didn't even make the NCAA's until 1984, some 23 years after joining DI and the WCHA.

Interesting. They have more NC's than Minnesota and BU. I guess a lack of regular season championships will kill you in a numbers game when competing against Minnesota and, it appears, Boston University.

They also don't have the history that Minnesota and BU have either. If you look at points/season played, Wisconsin is in the top 3 or 4.

Minnesota and BU have a lot more NCAA and Frozen Four appearances and higher all-time winning percentages, same reason Denver is behind those two despite two more NCs and one more regular season title than Minnesota.

I'd be surprised if Wisconsin and Maine were not 1 and 2 in points per season.

What Season are you using as a baseline? 1947-48? Which would give UND 63 seasons the same as Michigan, Michigan would have to be above UND.

UW started in 1963-64 season, giving them 48 seasons. Which would give them 7.07 pts/season.

Michigan will stay ahead of UW in pts/season by a narrow margin after accounting for points they earned this season.

Maine comes in at just under 5pts/season

I used 62 Wisconsin seasons to calculate their ranking. I believe North Dakota had 69. Michigan was over 90. Denver was at 60 seasons.

Ok, you went all the way back to the pre-ncaa days. I was just thinking about the modern era that started with the NCAA tournament in 1947-48 season.
