Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

It would be smart. I think for the right, ambitious, energetic guy, Houghton would be the perfect challenge. Of course it could crash and burn too.

If Hastings were to stay at UNO too long he'd end up labelled a career assistant coach. The Mario to Blais's Jacques. I'm pretty sure Guentzel is in grave danger of that too.

I don't consider that longtime assistants like Cavanaugh and Mel are still being looked at as potential HCs. It isn't a case of Hill where they have quit on the one chance that they had to be a HC.

For me, the fear of taking the MTU job is that if you fail you'll never get another chance at being a HC.

So you would consider Mel a career asst?

23 years as an assistant coach? That's a LONG time. I understand why Tech would want him, but many teams considering hiring a first-time head coach will want someone younger, more energetic, and more ambitious. Long time assistants start to look like damaged goods.

Think this post will get updated more today? Long slow road this time but find it interesting. Same goes for the coaches list.

How on earth did Michigan Tech earn 5.1197 points with 4 wins?!?!?

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

Awesome! Need to start earning more points on their own...not based on other's success!

Very true. If they continue to have single digit win seasons, they will drop. They will need to make more NCAA tournaments, perhaps win some conference hardware, and have winning seasons to stay in the top 10.

Re: The Greatest Programs of All-Time: #1 - #58

I was under the same impression as well. Blais is entirely unpredictable. It wouldn't surprise me if he retired in two years, and it wouldn't surprise me if he stayed another 8 years. If I were Hastings, I would go to Houghton if offered. At the very least, it can be a grooming spot to move up if an opportunity arrises (UNO or Minnesota perhaps?).

Surely you jest. :D

I was thinking the same thing about Steve Miller, DU's assistant, he has been coaching under Gwoz for 20 years. Anyone know if there is any interest in him?

Big point gap between 8 and 9. At the end if you could post the full list with total points and some other pertinent info that would be interesting to see.
