The Great Badger Coaching Search of '23: Start Drinking Heavily

Really? Where do you get Caufield as a “we” player? How many times did you see any effort from him that was not solely focused on cheating the red line, or otherwise focused on himself? I watched him play numerous times. The defensive zone didn’t exist for him. And as a consequence of the coaches allowing it he wasn’t the only selfish player the last 7 years.

these guys played like there were 5 pucks out there.

Totally agree. As a freshman he was cherry picking all the time and wouldn’t hustle back at all on defense. It was a complete joke. No consequences.

To his credit, he was a bit better as a sophomore showing some effort to back checking and less cherry picking. He didn’t win the hobey for his defensive efforts or 200’ game!

Ya that sucks. Natural goal scorer goes to Penn State over UW in hockey? You need those guys... the Pavs, the Heatleys, the Earls. Shows Hasty has some work to do to revive the idea of UW as top blue blood. 10 years of subpar play will do that.

A year or two of winning hockey and a packed kohl should fix that.

Edit: I can't freaking wait until we get good enough to pound Ped State into the ground at a packed Kohl and show these expansion wannabees who is the boss. Ive had aboot (pun indended) enough of football schools beating us at hockey.

I agree. I hate that team.

I believe Hastings will get the right guys in there to turn the ship around. If they don’t want to work both ends, then better they go somewhere else.

Ya I guess there's a reason Ped State doesn't go the distance. Pond hockey is fun to watch but doesnt win championships. Still little disappointed Hasty and Knott couldn't seal the deal.

Brad Schlossman reporting that Minnesota State-Mankato's leading scorer from this season - David Silye - is transferring to Wisconsin as well.

I’m thrilled to have Coach Hastings and Coach Knott leading the hockey program but watching the exodus from Mankato to Madison must suck for MSU fans - I feel for them. :-/

The big thing with Silye -even more than the goal scoring- is his proficiency on faceoffs. To play Coach Hastings' possession game, faceoffs are huge, and Silye led the NCAA at over 62% last season.

Lindmark was 58% on Faceoffs last season. If Lindmark finally finds a system where he is allowed to play up to his potential (Granato seemed to only respect him as a penalty killer), they could have 60%+ faceoff percentages for 2 of the top 3 lines. That would be huge.

I personally didn't think the Suter play is as bad as your making it out to be. Could it had been a crosscheck or interference, sure but this is playoff hockey. I also felt there was a bit of a flop involved. At the end of the day I'd say if your gonna stop infront of the net (respect) in the playoffs expect contact.

I love the bonus structure....school is putting it's money where it's mouth is. I would guess Knott has a similar arrangement of bonuses for actual achieving success. Why would Hastings and Knott not bet on themselves when they have made Frozen 4's without the resourses Wisconsin will afford them?

Max Domi needs to knock Matt Dumba out next game.

Dumba could have ended Pavelaki’s career with that blindside cheap shot of a hit.

Knott at $275000 seems low to me, associate head coach and recruiting bigdog. It's also probably more pricey to live in Madtown than Kato.
He's betting on their success. If they are able to turn this program into a perennial winner, Knott will be the heir apparent. Mike will turn it over to him, and the AD will be more than happy to do so if they achieve success in the next decade.

Domi was lucky he didn’t get the gate for an instigator.

Dumba’s hit was maaaaaybe a little late, but his skates were on the ice until collision and contact was shoulder to shoulder. Other than the results being that one of my favorite Badgers was knocked out of the game, I’m not sure how that’s a bad hit.

I tend to agree with Solo here. I thought it was dirty as he came from blind side and connected with his chin, causing him to be knocked out while falling and hitting his head on the ice. But either way totally unnecessary and puck was well gone by then. Hopefully he can get back.

The Dumba hit on Pavelski wasnt illegal...as a check. What it was however was targeting the opposing team's A well before the hit occurred. What it was is unnecessary. And thats what makes it dirty. Illegal no. Dirty yes.

Dumba is a marked man in game 2.
