The Great Badger Coaching Search of '23: Start Drinking Heavily

One big change that also reduces the impact of the trap is they don't allow interface/holding much any more. Now you can chip the puck past the D along the boards and they can't rub you out as you go to get your own puck. Make that defender skating backwards turn, then you have them. Another way to beat it is to hit a fellow attacking player coming up the center of the ice at full speed who doesn't have a big gap to the nearest defending player and you zip right by them. The key is speed, poise with the puck and passing accuracy.

Brad Schlossman reporting that Minnesota State-Mankato's leading scorer from this season - David Silye - is transferring to Wisconsin as well.

I’m thrilled to have Coach Hastings and Coach Knott leading the hockey program but watching the exodus from Mankato to Madison must suck for MSU fans - I feel for them. :-/

Reserved my season tickets last night before seeing this. Excellent news for us!

Question for those seasoned in season ticket purchases: so I reserved three seats on the UW website for myself, a buddy and his son. It only made me pay for an order charge. When does the $240 cost per ticket get applied?

Everyone harps on QU’s defensive ‘system’, no one discusses how they score nearly four goals per game and never slow down - backward or forward...

I dont think, at least not in this forum, that anyone is harping on QUs defensive system. Its not a pure neutral zone trap like Bemidji runs which truly bogs down the game, but a compromise that can be difficult to beat at the D1 level.

They certainly play a 200ft game. I think it is more that it is bizarre how teams havent been able to dissect it to this point.

Website said the price is charged across two payments, one in May and the other in June. Sounds like $240 is the expected price but the final price will be decided in May as well.

Friday or Saturday? Still lots of seats open in the opposite end. I live just under two hours away but I'm considering buying this year

Thank you!

Saturday, section 128. My parents and I had season tickets in this section from 06-08.

I’m in Stevens Point, so about 2 hours away.

It's pretty bad. FYI, Tassy hadn't shown much yet. He missed the first part of the season recovering from knee surgery, so lots of apparent potential, but not yet demonstrated. Silye, on the other hand, really hurts.

I'll be renewing my season tickets, but I suspect that our string of winning regular-season and tournament titles in the CCHA is over for a while, not to even mention NCAA bids.

Yeah I think UW didn't need any transfers in to get a winning record next year, let alone pull 3 guys from Kato. All they need is competent coaching and motivation. Hastings is going to have a lot of work to do in the locker room. It will be nice to see transfers that actually work out for WI. The only one I can think of that was a success was Moe under TG.

Luke Strand is a good coach. I think the mavs will be fine long term.

Ty Pelton-Byce was my immediate thought.

As important as the infusion of talent is I think it’s even more critical that guys who have played for Coach Hastings before already understand what he expects both on an off the ice and should be able to make the transition for the holdovers and incoming freshman a bit easier.

My main concern at the this point is who’s going to be between the pipes?

Ugh, I feared this would happen but…possibly Fink is like Caufield and puts “me” before “we”.
if that’s the case good riddance. Just another reason for me to hate ped state!

What evidence is there that Caufield was a 'me before we' player? I never saw that for a second and watched every game he playedin as a Badger.

I think it's fair to state his leadership wasnt where it needed to be, as he allowed the team to trap itself into playing hero hockey with him...but that speaks to letting underclassmen serve as Captains/Assistants

Caufield wasn't anyone that was going to blow one out defensively. He was 5'7" 160 soaking wet. His game is built on opportunity and accuracy, not a 200ft 50% D game. But he certainly was not a me first guy at all.

Really? Where do you get Caufield as a “we” player? How many times did you see any effort from him that was not solely focused on cheating the red line, or otherwise focused on himself? I watched him play numerous times. The defensive zone didn’t exist for him. And as a consequence of the coaches allowing it he wasn’t the only selfish player the last 7 years.

these guys played like there were 5 pucks out there.

That sucks. You look forward the last few years for this guy and Buckburger to come then they flip. I know it will be ok, but it still sucks.

Ya that sucks. Natural goal scorer goes to Penn State over UW in hockey? You need those guys... the Pavs, the Heatleys, the Earls. Shows Hasty has some work to do to revive the idea of UW as top blue blood. 10 years of subpar play will do that.

A year or two of winning hockey and a packed kohl should fix that.

Edit: I can't freaking wait until we get good enough to pound Ped State into the ground at a packed Kohl and show these expansion wannabees who is the boss. Ive had aboot (pun indended) enough of football schools beating us at hockey.
