The Great Badger Coaching Search of '23: Start Drinking Heavily

Just came back to say, "Hi" and hope that the coaching change brings us a solid team... and soon.

All the best, everyone.

I am numb.

Congrats to Badger hockey fans, though. You’re not just getting an amazing coach, you’re getting one of the most high quality people I’ve ever come across.

I am deeply engrained in Minnesota State Hockey, fundraising, the whole bit. You guys just hired a superstar person.

You’re going to be amazed how when he talks you just find yourself needing to listen because he commands that type of power and respect.

How he connected alumni back to the program and understood the importance of being connected to the community was truly remarkable.

The greater Mankato community is a better place because of Mike Hastings, which is why I think it’s so painful to see him go.

I can confidently say Todd Knott has been offered the Head Coach position here, it’s up to him now if he wants it — it should actually take him off the road a bit and with his kids a little more, for which I could see him taking the next step.

Well this is great to hear. I know you have fought off many suiters prior to Wisconsin and I am sure it's a tough day in Mankato. If Todd Knott takes the job, it is well deserved. I know he is generally thought of as one of the top recruiters in college hockey. I hope Mankato can continue to be successful and I hope Mike can turn around Wisconsin.

Wow!!! Great hire!

I wonder if he retains Brandt or decides he wants a whole new crew.

either way, Hastings is a proven winner and this will definitely brings some enthusiasm back to the fans.

I think Hastings maybe came to a realization that last year was THE chance in Mankato. Sometimes guys just want a new challenge and money does in fact talk. The Big Ten man...wild ride.

It will be a completely different style of play.....

I disagree. Hastings had to implement a certain style for the.players we can get in Mankato. You guys will love him. They will be a hard skating, fast team that plays a full game. This idea that he doesn't want to play a different way is born out of a lot of people that watch 2 Hastings coached games per year and make a lot.of assumptions.

We will miss him. I wont ever hold it agao st someone for taking an opportunity when they get it. He's leaving the program in a great place and hopefully Todd Knott (I'm assuming he's the next guy) can take the next step.

I second all of this.

Also, I see you guys give your AD a lot of grief. He has just now hired Luke Fickell and Mike Hastings. That sounds good to me.

Yeah but he majorly screwed up by giving Tony one more year. It was pretty obvious to all that there was no evidence that this team was going to suddenly become an ncaa qualifying team under his leadership this last season. Plus the reduction of the buyout on the contract restructure is chump change to a university of this financial magnitude.

And to pay millions of dollars to a search firm to pick the most obvious choice possible is questionable. It was obvious to everybody of this thread that Hastings was the best choice, pick up the phone and call the guy.

Well maybe I didn't go into enough detail. You must not have watched us play this year or most of the Granato era. Our defense was atrocious. I have watched Mankato enough to know it won't be all offense, no defense and the fundamentals will be much better. There is plenty of talent on this team, if they can get on board with playing the 200' game as Tim said above, this will be a quick turn around. Hopefully, he can develop these guys and get them playing as a team vs individuals. I am excited.

Fair enough....I'm just used to too many know-it-alls from about 90 minutes to the northeast that think he plays a trap and can only win by clutching and grabbing. He's not Mike Eaves. I truly believe it willbe a quick turnaround for you guys. Remember, we went from 12 to 24 wins in his first year....and, yes, that was in the last year of the old WCHA. Sorry I misunderstood, my eyes glazed over for about the last 2 hours. This is not great for us, but hopefully Todd Knott can take us to the next level.
