The Great Badger Coaching Search of '23: Start Drinking Heavily

Announcers stated they talked to Rohlik and brought up the openong in Madison. In their words he said he was fully committed to Ohio State.

As a broadcaster I dont know why you would ask that dumb of a question right before a team plays in the NCAAs. What is a guy going to say? Lol

OSU played amazing. In my opinion ECAC, specifocally, and Hockey East, to an extent are still reeling from their COVID shutdown policies.

I am a Hockey East "guy". While only two made field, BU outclassed WMU by a wide margin and faced much tougher competition in Hockey East. I actually think Merrimack has a good chance to beat QU but we'll see. Hockey East didn't really shut down during the COVID year like the Ivy schools. I have only two thoughts so far on the tournament: Big Ten is awesome this year and it could be worst year in NCHC short history).

Interestingly, I saw someone on twitter post they saw Mac sitting with Dan Muse at a game back in late February or early March. It's just rumor but you would have to believe if that was the case, they already had a short list of candidates before the season ended.

Best thing I like about Muse is that he blew up the Chicago Steel and rebuilt them from the ground up in 2 years to win a championship.

That and he had to really work hard just to be a D3 player. Lifelong learner. He gets it.

But it is no surprise of they are targeting him. The USNDP kods know him. He has been successful in one way shape or form at ecery level.

Hence why I said "to an extent". Certainly nowhere near ECAC. Harvard just looked totally outclassed on the ice...although props tp Cornell. Still think the NCAA screwed Denver with their regional locations.

I too think Merrimack certainly could beat QPiac.

Denver ended up finishing as the 4th overall seed so lowest pecking order of the 1s. I suppose Fargo would have been ok for Denver but really unless they are hosting in Loveland this is how it's always gonna be for them. Can only pick places that want to actually host.

Watching the USNTDP dismantle the Capitals a couple of weeks back was eye opening. Final nail that led to the staff except Tom Gilbert to be let go.

They dismantled WI, though Tony rolled out a lineup that seemed to be done with a dart board.

Maybe aTG was right and the B6 is so much tougher than other conferences that UW wasn't as bad as we thought. Wink.

I can't imagine what he was talking about regarding UW lacking resources of other schools. Maybe the admissions are too tough? Of course losing Sampo Ranta just sent the whole program into a tailspin.

I think it there are a couple things...

1) Yes I think the Big10 was really that good this year. I dont see the top 4 or 5 teams each year just all of a sudden not attracting top talent. Sustainable? Remains to be seen. Big10 got a lot of hate all the way up to when they put 3 teams in the Frozen 4 in 2018.

2) Wuhan Flu really impacted a lot of Programs, especially ECAC (i.e. Ivy League). They are still reeling from their poor choices.

3) As far as what WI needs...that rink HAS to be shrunk. Minnesota is converting Mariucci to NHL 200x85 for next year. Kohl is 200x97. They are decidedly at a recruiting disadvantage. Closest now is Notre Dame at 200x90...

4) I cant imagine its NIL So few players get high level NIL and those are for 2yrs max until they go to NHL. Now WI NIL prgm is awful and centrally controlled. So theres not much changing that. Ath Dept is kinda communist in that respect. Centrally controlled and no hockey culture left at the school. Maybe TG is referring to that...let the hockey prgm run outside the centrally controlled orbit.

Let them have a blue line club. Let Alcohol be served at Kohl, let them have different uniforms. I feel like hockey team has been "BORGED"..."Resistence is futile, you will be assimilated."

5) And admissions...only Ranta missed that bus if I remember correctly bc he couldnt TOEFL it. Maybe have parity with the other Big10 prgms...sure. But even AthDept doesnt control that.

Awesome. Muse would be at the top of the list for me, along with maybe Larson.

First of all GoBucky13, drinking while typing? C'mon, MAN!

*I've been lobbying for a 200 X 85 since the D.C. Coliseum days. I get it, under "The Hawk", he liked the Euro game. This is North America, yes we enjoy a wide-open game, but there's nothing wrong with Rock 'em-Sock 'em-Hockey. AND it prepares the boys for the next step. Nothing to do with the ice sheet, but it's time ferda NCAA to let the boys dump the fishbowls/birdcages ala USHL & CHL.

* Blueline Club? YES! I was hoping for the Wisconsin Hockey Backers to eventually become that, but the founder was lost and C-19 shut the door. There were great luncheons and a couple of road trips over the short time.

What do you mean by "only occassionally"? I mean they should be wearing their 90 and 06 sweaters full time. They were unique and classy without being tacky. Classic.

And no drinking while I type. I just usually type too fast and dont get it right the 1st time. Haha.

As far as blue line club, I mean as a direct supporter and booster to the hockey team with mbr benefits. That refers to my BORG perspective with fundraising, uniforms, and NIL with he team.

Apropos of nothing to this thread…I took a look at the BU roster, only 5 players from Massachusetts. Then out of curiosity I looked at BC and UMass. Similar numbers.

has Massachusetts HS hockey dipped in talent? I recall they used to be 2nd only to Minnesota the n terms of high-end talent.

Definitely feel like Muse and Larson are in the top 5 candidates. That being said, I don't think they'd screen for anything past 5.

The USNDP connection bc of Johansson and the youth development piece makes sense.

Rohlik makes sense.

Larson makes sense.

Further down the road I go...the less Im sold on Hastings.

Anyobe have Brandt as a dark horse? Or too inexperienced/no HC track record at D1 level?

SCSU just didn't have the horses to stay with Minnesota, but I really like the way that team plays. I'd be thrilled to have Larson bring that game to Wisconsin.

I just dont see Larson or Rohlik leaving their current situations. I believe they are both making pretty good money and have significant time remaining on their contrats.

My money is on Muse or someone we don't expect. I will also say for the record I do not want it to be Brandt. Nothing against him as a possibility later in life, but no HC experience and minimal as an assistant at the D1 level right now. I'd like someone with no current connection to this team as the new HC.

Not considering Rholik just bc he is an alum is not the rt way to go either. Its great that he is, but his body of work points to serious consideration. He is a great coach that develops talent and runs a super solid system at a school that doesnt cares little about the hockey prgm. Despjte all those challenges, he has succeeded and put teams in the tourney, one F4 under his belt and playing for another.

No one can offer what Wisconsin can in terms of the check book and resources. There are almost no major D1 jobs open this yr outside of WI. They can go have discussions with whoever they want, regardless of their "happiness" where they are at.
