The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

Ugh. That is terrible. Wishing you and your family the best.

CT scan for me today. Bottoms up on contrast! 😕

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

My wife was admitted to the hospital tonight with what is likely pancreatic cancer. Please pray for her in our time of need.
I'm so sorry. Thinking of you.

Did they give you IV too? Did you need like you peed the bed? :p
In serious news, hope you are feeling better and that things are improving.

SO sorry. Praying for your wife, you, family and the medical team caring for you.

More tests today. Itching has gotten worse but everything else is better.

Chest X-ray, CBC, and another liver enzyme test. 🤞

You have itchy feet too? Mine started in September. Yours sounds more serious, though. Hope it gets straightened out. I've finally been diagnosed with lichen planus. Now I get to go get blood draws for hepatitis taken. Weeeee.

Yeah that stuff was bizarre. Kinda cold then really warm. Everywhere. Instantly. OH MY GOD I HAVE TO PEE. NOW I NEED TO PUKE. Ok, it’s over. I guess I don’t.

I’m seeing a specialist tomorrow too. My latest panel had everything improving except for my ALT/AST which were worse. I’m just wishing this crap would heal up. Ugh. It’s so taxing on not just me but my family as well.

It's one of the few tests that I have had that my patients endure (abdominal CT), so I always try to prepare them for the peeing the bed part (the few that I take that are awake anyway).
Had your PCP been managing you prior to seeing a specialist? (Obviously, if you don't want to share medical details on a public forum, please don't feel like you have to)

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

Never really had a PCP since I was a kid. I basically went to whatever internal medicine doc I could see the earliest when I started to notice the jaundice. I had been under his care for the last three weeks.

I’m not really thrilled with him. But I should have asked for a specialist earlier. Never going back to him.

Fingers crossed the specialist will have some insight. For someone who seemed outwardly young and healthy in April, this must be frightening.

Yeah. Some days are pretty scary. There have been nights where my GF and I just hold each other. We’re trying our best to help each other through the mental aspect of all this.

I’ve been asking myself a lot of questions. What did I do wrong? Why me? Why now after I meet someone I want to spend the rest of my life with? It’s a dark road and I’m trying to avoid going down it. We’re trying to take it in stride.

It’s the first truly scary thing I’ve ever dealt with. It’s something I would wish on no one.

Don’t judge a book... he’s as old and crusty as they come - for a millennial. ;)

Thoughts, prayers, good vibes, positive juju, and anything else I can think of headed your way, dx. For you, all your people, and your medical team.

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

Holy moly. Saw a CNP specialist today and she was amazing. They ordered ALL of the tests. They took like 14 vials of blood and I had two MRIs today. The CNP walked into the office visit and already had a half page of notes and 20-30 questions. We spent almost 45 minutes talking and doing Q&A.

So they’re testing me for:
Diabetes (negative)
Celiac (negative)
Wilson’s
Hemochromatosis
Thyroid
Hep AB with the more detailed tests to determine if I’ve ever had those
Herpes 1&2
Autoimmune panel
Clotting
Lipid panel
Full liver panel again
And a couple of genetic deficiencies

Sounds like you had a really good visit. Glad!

So relieved that they're being wicked thorough! Was getting jittery running through possibilities not being addressed.

Yeah, me too. Everyone around me was basically yelling at me "GO SEE A SPECIALIST NOW!" and I kind of just shrugged it off. I think it was kind of eye-opening to talk with her and hear that she was kind of shocked that it took as long as it did and had questions about the tests being run. Some of the tests have started to come back but I have questions about them since I wasn't told to fast beforehand and they can be greatly impacted by that. Specifically the iron and lipids test. The thyroid test might be impacted by the CT scan (which the specialists were very puzzled by) because of the contrast.

I should have said no to the CT scan in retrospect. I didn't realize it carried the radiation dose it did...

That's the package deal with modern diagnostic imaging.
Took a whole Nuke Eng / Eng Phys class on just that subject at RPI back in the day.

Thanks and thanks to all for the kind words. She had a stent put in because some bile ducts were blocked by the mass in her pancreas. They want to wait and see if the swelling will go down before deciding on surgery or if she will need chemo to shrink the mass before surgery. Obviously we are hoping to skip that and go right to surgery. New imaging will be done next Monday and then they will determine next steps from there.

Dx, I’m praying for a quick diagnosis and fast healing for you as well.
