The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

And requesting prayer for a trans sibling of mine.

History of self-harm. Parents aren't all that accepting. Our trans group is pretty much the only family he has. Last night, at a get together after group, he kept trying to touch a very hot stove (all of us blocked him from doing so). He was visibly upset when I refused to share my wine (he's almost 20 and I don't share with minors). He was also visibly upset when we refused to buy alcohol for him. One of the hosts made pudding shots, they were strong, and he pounded 9 of them. When another member of group dropped him off for the night, they said it was the worst they've seen this young man. Last night, the person in question reported himself safe, but all of us are genuinely concerned for his safety.

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

I had a CT scan of my right foot done Monday, and Tuesday, I read the report. I'm not well-versed in medical terminology, but apparently, my right foot is several kinds of messed up right now. Years of abuse will do that to you. I see the orthopedic surgeon on Monday, and I have a hunch he will say surgery.

I've been praying. Not so much to avoid surgery, but to be content with whatever the surgeon recommends. I've also been talking to myself a lot, trying to settle myself down, trying to remind myself that I'm still a fierce badass warrior goddess who doesn't need a crown to make herself a queen, trying to tell myself I am so much more than my life in endurance.

Yes, I had plans for this year. But as the saying goes, "if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." I'm already looking at workout alternatives, such as swimming and cycling, and I'm starting to see that forced time off may not be a bad thing, especially since I'm in the middle of grad school. I have also decided to not register for anything else until I meet with the surgeon on Monday. I also haven't run since Monday, trying to protect my foot.

In the meantime, I just need to keep cool and realize I can't do anything until Monday. The Bible says "when times are good, be happy, but when times are bad, consider this: God has made one as well as the other. Therefore, you can't discover anything about your future." (Ecclesiastes 7:14).

What you can do is also pray that I am content with what the surgeon says to do. Remind me that everything will be waiting there for me if I can return. Hugs. Hand squeezes. Remind me that this is only temporary, and that a healthy Amber Marie will protect her house first.

Thank you,

Amber M.

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

Over the weekend, I dropped the remaining races on my calendar and refused to pay for any more, because I knew I had the appointment with the orthopedic surgeon today. That's good.

Today, I met with the orthopedic surgeon. I gave him the back story of the problem. He told me I had pretty much done the non-surgical options. He told me the only non-surgical option I had left was a steroid shot, but that would be a band aid. We settled on surgery. He told me what would be done and how long I would be off. He also told me I wouldn't be walking at all for two weeks, and then I'd be in a boot for the other parts.

Surgery is July 2, a Tuesday. I am waiting on what time to show up, and I will find out about that next week when they call. Yes, I DO need a driver, and to be honest, I think I will need a driver while recovering, because I don't know what kind of drugs they will put me on after. This period will last 6-8 weeks. (gonna try like hell to make it 6.)

You know, I thought I'd be scared. I'm not. I actually welcome this happening. I'm gonna get this foot fixed so I can be relatively healthy again, so my workouts will be fun again, etc. And while I'm kind of bummed about not working out for close to two months, I have grad school stuff to work on, I have a book to write, etc.

Thank you with love,

Amber M.

it will go OK> You can work out without using your foot- different stuff.

It will. I'm actually looking forward to it!

And a good friend of mine committed suicide on Thursday. I could see the struggle behind the smile, I knew she was in pain... but f-ck, this hurts so much. I tried not to cry at work yesterday. But between 3 PM and 9:30 PM yesterday, I couldn't turn the tears off. Thank God my adopted family was there to lift me up.

Prayers woud be appreciated for my friend and her family. Her Dad is ill and she is far away from him. He isn't doing well and she is trying to get home.

You got it!

A friend of mine, trans girl in her early 20s, attempted suicide Sunday. She is still alive, thankfully. Prayers for her are welcome. And prayers for those of us who know her... we need to convey she is loved and she needs to stay here.

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

:( the world sucks sometimes

First, Jeanette committs suicide on June 20, rocking me to my core. Then this. I am fortunate that a suicide survivors' (is that the term I want?) exists here in Holland, MI, and I am going Saturday.

And part of why my friend attempted suicide is that her co-workers bullied her for being trans.

She flew in last night just as they got some really not good news. Praying for them all. This is not going to go well :(

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

if you can spare some good thoughts, I could use them. and if you're going to injure a body part, I would really recommend any other one than your brain.

Re: The Good Thoughts and Prayers Needed Thread 2

thanks. plenty of worse concussion cases than mine, but having lots of post-concussion vision problems since June. no work, no driving, no reading, very little screen time, among other things. doing neurological therapy and saw an eye specialist. progress has been extremely slow until the last week or so, and even then, it feels like a million steps to go. as someone who is very active and independent, it's extremely tough and stressful.
