Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

It's the only one that I can't figure out what's going on just from context. I can't tell a headlight from a moon roof but I can understand Gizmodo, and I haven't read a second-wave feminist manifesto without rolling my eyes since 1987 but I understand Jezebel. Kotaku, though, is in another language, which is apparently shared by several hundred million people under 25, half of them Korean.

I would just like to thank them for paying my social security checks in <strike>30</strike> 15 years.
FYP. :p

All video game forums are pretty much like that. Some are worse (IGN) and some are better (GameFAQs). Just a ton of indecipherable in-jokes and references that can fly by if you don't pay attention to the video game industry regularly.

Actually all nerdy interest forums are like that, the MTG one I visit can be pretty bad too.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Back on topic, the referee for the Final has been announced. It's Nicola Rizzoli from Italy.

There's this college hockey forum I've heard about that's the same way too. I've even heard that My Little Pony memes are an acceptable response to posts in that cuckoo's nest...

I thought "applejack" was that super hardcore booze they make in The County?

According to Wiki, it was popular in the American colonial period, so yeah, The County's probably just about caught up to that by now.

The stuff I'm thinking about, if the Founders had been drinking it they never would have found Philadelphia, let alone made it to Congress sessions.

Except Franklin. Franklin could drink and screw and still make his deadlines. TCB.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

So the finalists were announced for the Golden Glove award for best Goalkeeper. Tim Howard? Not on it.

Probably the right decision though. Howard had one great game. Nevas and Neuer both are more than deserving of being in the running. Romero is the one choice that probably could have gone to a variety of other goalies (Howard included), but when you make two stops in PKs in the semis to go along with clean sheets in the Round of 16 and Quarters...well, I don't have a problem with Romero getting the nod for the third spot.

Perhaps, but Howard faced a blitzkrieg of shots.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

I'm sorry but PKs are not worthy of a feather in your hat because it isn't skill it's guessing. It's like saying I'm the best at playing war.

Yes. Exactly the same. The second PK save was remarkable. Most goalies wouldn't stop that even assuming they guessed properly. But yeah, just like war.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

When I make a PK save I'm stoked. But I'm not going to use it on a "resume". I'm just not.
