Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Yeah, I'm not going to fault Bradley for that goal. That was a team breakdown.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

I'm not counting a single thing as certain... This WC seems to be where crazy happens...

All I know is that I will be at the Chicago Watch Party on Thursday Morning... Hoping I can recapture some of the karma that we had when I was down there for the Ghana game..

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

My heart says Germany should just let us tie with them. They're guaranteed first place and would be living true to their history of collusion in the World Cup, as well as helping out our coach who is one of their best players.

My head says they want to regain confidence and will be out for blood.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

After a bit of time to process a few thoughts.

1) Zusi was not good. Made a good pass to Dempsey on the goal but, his corners were bad and he gave up the ball in bad spots.

2) Yedlin! Did what he needed to do. Used his speed and made some good plays.

3) Jermaine Jones is a beast on the big stages. Unlucky on the yellow though. That'll be interesting going forward.

4) Tim Howard was not good. Yup I said it. Fell down on the first goal, just plain missed the one off the post, and couldn't attempt on the other goal?

Nate Silver has the USA as 76% to go through on Thursday.

Also: how the USA-Portugal match played out on Twitter.

I won't either... But that was absolutely his turnover.

Between that and the gif of kicking the ball into Portugal's defenders' legs that he will see in his nightmares for months, though, he does have enough to be kicking himself over.

Still one of our bet players out there, but absolutely not living up to his billing. Can we say he was better in South Africa?

Where are the mid-90s New Jersey Devils when you need them? They knew how to salt away 2-1 leads.

We could just give them the Sudetenland. That would appease them.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

So.

If the US loses 3-0 and Portugal wins 2-0, all of the tiebreakers between the teams would be even...leading to drawing of lots to determine advancing to the knockout. What a crock.
