Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Normally, yes, but this would appear to COST them money (or at least ratings, which hurts future TV rights). I can understand them wanting to put an England match on TV as late as possible, but this is Italy!

The lesson is. FIFA does whatever farks the English.

Did you notice the Greece striker who went down in the box and signaled the ref that he wasn't fouled, he slipped...what a strange development...

Imagine if soccer players played in the PGA tour...talk about 'improving your lie'

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Hate them in qualifying, but happy to see the Ticos score.

Made me laugh.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

This turning out to be good day for CONCACAF. Geiger looking like one of the best referees and now the Ticos.

The only thing that doesn't make sense about the SEC chant is that they're the (self-proclaimed) best. CONCACAF is middle of the road at best, and we know it.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

The first goal had been coming. Lots of chances for Costa Rica. So often in these games you see a side get chances but never score. It was nice to see them score here. The second goal was a thing of beauty that no one saw coming. England and Italy have to be loving this.

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Watching this match between Costa Rica and Uruguay is a microcosm of why for me the World Cup might be the most compelling sporting event on the planet. CR by all accounts should not be in this match, much less leading and the yet skill displayed by even their side is wonderful to watch. I don't see how even the most casual fan of sports in general couldn't watch this with an open mind and come away impressed and entertained.

Sweet Jesus Ticos!

btw after this and the Spain loss how many brackets are potentially jacked?

I had England and Italy advancing, so this isn't all that troubling for my bracket. On the flip side, I had Spain winning Group B

So, CONCACAF remain the only confederation without a loss in the World Cup:

CONCACAF: 2-0
CONMEBOL: 3-1
UEFA: 1-3 (0-2 taking out games against each other)
AFC: 0-1
CAF: 0-1

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

Red card! First of the tournament. Ice cream on Dr. Brych!

Re: The FIFA World Cup Thread (Spoilers Welcome)

I had Spain winning their group and Uruguay in the finals, so that definitely wasn't a good result for me.

The CONCACAF torch now passes to Honduras tomorrow against France.

I'm thinking a 0-0 draw with Italia and Inglaterra next. Hoping Ivory Coast can get a win because Africa needs a team not named Ghana to do well.
