The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Replace a few of those words with Ohio State and Michigan and Miami is in a very similar position. While steeped in tradition at the DIVISION ONE level in football and basketball, let's face it, a MAC school isn't going to win a title in those sports. The administration could taste it in '09 and want it very badly. They believe this is the best way for them to continue to have a national presence in the school's flagship sport.

So joining a conference with 3 traditional powers and 2 schools on a similar upward trajectory as Miami gives them a better chance to win a national title than being a top dog along with Notre Dame in the CCHA? I don't see it. Staying in the CCHA, they're close to a lock to make NCAAs for the foreseeable future. In this new conference, their chances are maybe 50/50 in any given year.

They did it because of the money, other programs be dammed. Just admit it. There's no reason to make excuses and say they did it to remain relevant or have a national presence or win a title or whatever.

I would think Miami and the rest of the CCHA leftovers would have a harder time continuing to pull in quality recruits without Michigan, MSU and Ohio State there...the leftover WCHA teams would have been able to continue as far as I'm concerned because in all honesty, Minny and Wisco were slipping compared to UNO, UMD, UND and DU lately.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

And the smaller schools would be better off because now they can form their own conference and get an autobid! Perfect!

I have been beating this drum. From a UNH stand point I want the teams at the bottom end of H.E. to stay it is more cushion for a bad season.

I don't think either the BHHC or BTHC are a good idea; in particular the BHHC – total over reaction – and not needed right now.

But when life gives you lemons...

Or maybe better for this case, the one left behind can either "get busy living or get busy dying"

Miami, DU, UND, CC, UMD & UNO want to play the best, to be the best...

We, along with others in the Big Ten, will not play a non-conference game against a team with an abusive and hostile nickname. Good thing we have a winning record against you guys, it will now stay that way.

Once our State delegation gets B!+ch slapped by the NC$$ the name will be dropped by that time.

The former commissioner of the CCHA jumped ship literally THE DAY AFTER the end of the conference tournament. I think it's safe to say what action Miami took was in relation to their belief in the long term viability of the conference. And, I think it was justified.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

Any evidence they were actually going after BC? Or are you just trying to find more ways to completely overreact to this?

few would argue that BC has been one of the best teams in the nation over the last 10 years, and if you want to play ONLY the best (as dg claimed), why wouldn't the confernce go after BC?

Flight for almost everyone.

So is Miami? What's your point? This isn't a conference based on geography, it's a conference based on winning, and no program is currently better at that than BC.

Didn't look it up. I guess I didn't realize Miami was that far away from the 3 central teams.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

When will Dean Blais comment on the new league? I assume next week after it is officially announced. I will be very interested to see what he says because he pretty much condemned the BTHC because of what it did to the smaller programs. Yet, the school he coaches at just did the exact same thing.

BTHC will make double the money and dominate the new Sissy Conference.

UND - kind of funny that they don't have a nickname or conference name right now.
