The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

DU's major issue was that they were willing to make significant sacrifices to remain in the WCHA as long as Minnesota and Wisconsin were anchor members of the conference.

Significant sacrifices?

The existing WCHA is easily the best option for DU and the school would keep the status quo without the Big Ten in a heartbeat if it could.

You should check out their head coach's bio. Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone, but he might have already heard of this "Minnesota" that you speak of.

Ya...OSU recruiting in the state should continue to accelerate.

You obviously haven't been to Oxford and seen the co-eds. Its worth the trip. The hockey is a bonus.

I spent their homecoming weekend there last season. It might have been the best road trip of the year!

I don't think you 2 are talking about the same "Library" and yes, both are bars.

I'm speaking of the Library in Downtown Houghton. I've been there many times. I grew up about 2 miles from it. Have to check out what brews they have on tap right now.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

I believe that DU is better off. This probably isn't the time or the place to list all the advantages.

I've posted hundreds of comments over the past year that gave opinions on why DU had to make this move if the opportunity presented itself. You are welcome to look at my previous posts or read the blog.

DU's major issue was that they were willing to make significant sacrifices to remain in the WCHA as long as Minnesota and Wisconsin were anchor members of the conference. Ice hockey is DU's flagship sport and ultimately they decided that this opportunity was too good to pass up.

Replace a few of those words with Ohio State and Michigan and Miami is in a very similar position. While steeped in tradition at the DIVISION ONE level in football and basketball, let's face it, a MAC school isn't going to win a title in those sports. The administration could taste it in '09 and want it very badly. They believe this is the best way for them to continue to have a national presence in the school's flagship sport.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

That is an undeniable truth.
I don't need a hockey team to experience hot co-eds in Ohio...I'll just go visit some friends in Athens and see all the wonderful co-eds there. At least I'd have a free place to crash and get to see old friends.

Any non-tech school has plenty of hot coeds, Miami isn't special.

While you're there, convince OU to restart its team and rejoin the CCHA.
