The end of leagues as we know?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

few would argue that BC has been one of the best teams in the nation over the last 10 years, and if you want to play ONLY the best (as dg claimed), why wouldn't the confernce go after BC?
Priority one is to lock up Notre Dame [hmmm...Notre Dame ---> NBC Sports ----> Versus].

Then with seven teams I'd have to think they'd go after BC, Texas, Oklahoma, UNH, Maine or BU. All massive longshots, but hey if you're dreaming...

Oklahoma club coach is father of Matt Donovan.

Texas has new TV network and is supposedly adding lacrosse.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

So I just read the article that poutlines how the left behind WCHA schools voted unanimously to invite ND and Miami to the WCHA in May, only to be double-crossed in the end.

So Tech, SCSU, MSUM and BSU all voted to invite ND and Miami even though it appeared that the WCHA would be fine as a 10 team league? I'm just wondering if any thought was given to what this would have done to the remaining schools in the CCHA.

You left behinders are railing on what everyone has done to destroy your program when in fact your own programs were complicit in a plan that would do the same to like institutions?

I find that very interesting...

I believe that I just won the thread. You can all go home now. ;)

That felt more inevitable than the Super conference...losing Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State was a far bigger blow to the CCHA than losing Wisconsin and Minnesota to the WCHA. Notre Dame and Miami were bound to look elsewhere. Maybe MTU, SCSU, MSUM and BSU were trying to prevent UND and DU from leaving by agreeing to invite ND and Miami.

In other words, looking out for their own best interests instead of worrying about collateral damage to the little guys?

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

I see where he's going with that, but the one response that I would have is that he sites BSU as being the example to use. The problem with that is BSU was on the verge of folding even after making that run because they didn't have a strong conference and needed to get into the WCHA to save their program. I know situations aren't apples-to-apples, but the point still remains.

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

mgoblog ranks the Big Ten the third best conference in college hockey. They also list the schools that were screwed the worst.

http://mgoblog.com/content/hockey-realignment-react

1. St. Cloud State. The Huskies were a solid middle-of-the-pack WCHA team that often grabbed tourney at-large slots, though they infamously never won once they got to the actual tourney. Now they get to be Boise State.

That's a half truth! We won once!

And at least someone ranks us first in something...

Re: The end of leagues as we know?

So after the meeting by the remaining WCHA teams this week, they will come out and say they are leaving the WCHA effective immediately. Thus denying anyone an autobid (and at least one trophy would have to be replaced).

Unfortunately yes, but that didn't happen now did it?
It still wouldn't have been good for college hockey to do that either.
Instead, those schools that voted for it got a big knife in the back, lead by UND and DU.

Ladies, gentleman, and weak minded crybabies from Houghton a winner has been declared and that person is Gurtholfin. Gurtholfin may collect his winnings from the John MacInnes Water Closet and also receives head of the line privileges over the hoards of runny nosed, puffy eyed, bed wetting Tech fans who will no doubt be clamoring for a lawsuit against tU(hitler)ND.

You're not supposed to point out that what MTU, SCSU, MSU-M, UAA, and BSU are complaining about having happened to them they were complicit in attemping to do to NMU, LSSU, WMU, FSU, BGSU, and UAF.

Like a US Navy Master Chief told me once, "{bleep} the {bleep}ing {bleep}ers {bleep}ingly before the {bleep}ing {bleep}ers {bleep} the {bleep}ing {bleep} out of you. Better to be the {bleep}ing {bleep}er than the {bleep}ing {bleep}ee."

Wouldn't there still be seven? MN, WI, UND, DU, CC, UMD, and UNO?

Double standards and hypocrisies sure are uncomfortable.

So what makes UND and Denver bad guys isn't what they wanted, it's the fact that they got what they wanted?

That would be awesome. Though, there are penalties for not disclosing a year in advanced. Not sure if the Commish could just waive those fees. Or...I wonder if the WCHA can just announce they are dissolving immediately.

HAH! Definitely using that on my son's Pee Wee team this upcoming season. Just gotta pick the right moment...

If that's how you want to spin it sure.
I'm fairly sure UND and DU were clamoring to get ND and Miami either way.
They then decided screw the rest of the league we've been a part of for 60 years.
Either way it's not right and the schools affected by it have a right to *****.

He's beating the same drum that everyone has been pounding ad nauseum for days. To blame MTU, SCSU, etc. for the WCHA folding is obviously ridiculous. First, his conjecture didn't actually happen. Second, the CCHA was trashed as soon as they lost their three best teams to the B10 (the WCHA lost two middle-of-the-pack also-rans, to no great effect). ND and Miami weren't staying, no matter what. So now instead of one, two conferences are being destroyed.
