The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Manhattanville has proven over the past decade, they are kind of a "big boy":

Since 2000-2001 season, their record is 165-46-24.

4th 20-win season is past 7 years.

That's kinda good.

"Kind of" yes, but when you always play softer teams, you would expect to have that many wins. For some reason, Manhattanville fans just don't get it. Starting to sound like some of the 'early"Adrian fans.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Oswego played @ Manhattanville in the early 2000s, then Manhattanville backed out of the return trip just before the season began. If I remember correctly.

The second part of that is not accurate. Just looked it up.

The two met in the Hamilton tournament in December 1999 - Oswego won - M'Ville just started program.

Oswego hosted in January 2001 and won 9-4. Manhattanville hosted the following season in November 2001 and won 8-4.

I heard the same thing about Plattsburgh.... The team may want to play with the "big boys" but sometimes the "big boys" don't wanna play with them.
In defense of Emery, he's been quite consistent over the past decade in establishing that he has no desire to schedule reciprocating non-conference games any farther afield than the longstanding ones the Cardinals have now (and with Middlebury, Norwich, and the Primelink solidly entrenched, that's a luxury he can afford without SOS concerns). In fact, he's been pretty open about how he loves having Skidmore on the schedule because of the short trip.

Ah, I swear the first game was in another tournament. Obviously, I need to research first.

This line of argument is stupid. I think it's pretty obvious Oswego and Plattsburgh don't duck anyone.

Having said that, I would love it if Oswego did play Manhattanville one day - nice 30 minute drive from my home to Rye Playland.

I wasn't trying to argue anything, just simply stating what I've heard. I don't think that Plattsburgh would "duck" anyone, but a coach isn't going to call up another coach that he has no interest in playing and ask him to get put on the schedule.

I just didn't want the earlier comment to sound like Oswego and Plattsburgh would avoid M'Ville for "cupcakes". My school and your school play terrific skeds and don't need to defend them.

I do understand not wanting to make the long drive down to these parts from either Oswego or Plattsburgh for a single game. However, with NYC a short trip from Rye, it could make for a nice weekend for the teams down here.

Plus there's my selfishness of wanting to see my alma mater play and only have to drive 30-40 minutes.

The Obvious, yet often ignored "Pool Recipe"

The Obvious, yet often ignored "Pool Recipe"

For every team in the ECAC West and MASCAC, their NCAA Tournament Selection process for the 2011 tournament begins NOW. Of course, nobody knows who will be good in 2011, but there should be a pretty good idea of which teams have the potential to have a successful season.

The traditional “powers” having recent success in the East are Plattsburgh, Oswego, Norwich, Middlebury, Elmira, Manhattanville, & Amherst to name a few. Looking at the rosters of these programs, many of them should continue that success well into next year. Knowing this, any team in the ECAC West and MASCAC would foolish to not load-up their out-of-conference schedule with as many games as possible against these teams next year if they want a chance at getting the Pool B bid, or one of the at-large Pool C bids.

I do not know how far along any team’s 2011 schedules are at this point in time, but a team desiring a non-AQ bid simply cannot schedule games against the Sisters of St. Mary our Mother of Mercy and expect to be considered for one of these bids. There is no AQ, there is no “win and you’re in”, the final 2-3 games do not dictate your destiny when it comes to the NCAA Tournament. Next year’s NCAA selection begins today for every ECAC West and MASCAC team.

Remember this in March 2011, and for these ECAC West and MASCAC teams, remember this simple fact every single day, because EVERY SINGLE FLIPPINGAME is an NCAA Tournament game. It’s just that simple, and at the same time, just that difficult.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Ahh, so replacing those games versus Conn College, Assumption, Becker, and Nichols, with let's say Plattsburgh, Oswego, Oswego, and Oswego, they'd still be 20-6-1. **** they're good.

I guess we will never know as my son was a senior with 2 ncaa appearances - one a final four .He started off that freshman year with 12 goals in his first 10 games and he's a lot better now .

Sisters of St. Mary our Mother of Mercy? That's one of the D-II schools, right?:D

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Your opinion is that M'ville is 20-6-1 because of who they played ,my opinion is they would be 20-6-1 no matter who they played.

Congrats to a successful career by your son, but this is the same argument we've been reading for the last 2 years in favor of letting Adrian in the NCAA tourney.

Bingo along the same lines I have heard from Oswego's end.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Don't know if it's been posted anywhere, but Bowdoin is @ Oswego Saturday night. If the full brack/teams that are in is posted anywhere, please let me know.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I do predict that Manhattanville will no longer schedule Lebanon Valley - but will they continue to go 20- 6- 1?
