The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Nice little clipping from Manhattanville's press release from yesterday's game:

"Manhattanville (20-6-1, 10-4-1 ECAC West), which will most likely receive an NCAA Tournament berth with the victory, will learn its fate when the NCAA Tournament selections are made on Sunday night. Check GoValiants.com to learn where the Valiants might be for the NCAA First Round, which is scheduled for Wednesday, March 10 at campus sites. Elmira (18-8-1, 11-4-0 ECAC West) will hope for an at-large bid to the NCAAs on Sunday to prolong its season."

Not that I agree with Mville being left out and EC getting in....But this is funny:cool:

I'm not seeing any updates on the Valiant's sites about the snub - bet there'll be utter bedlam from that college tomorrow in some form. Being a fan in a conference with the creature comfort of an AQ is not something to be taken for granted, clearly. Sorry Manhattanville, but that just plain sucks. Wow.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

A question for anyone familiar with the conference's machinations: I know that the ECAC is a weird organization in terms of the disparity between its size and the actual power it exerts over member institutions - for many schools, it serves mostly as a fallback for sports that aren't sponsored by their primary conference. That being said, would it have any power whatsoever to broker some kind of reallignment among the three hockey conferences (West, East, Northeast) it directly serves? With the disappearance of Pool B, the dwindling of the ECAC-W, and the 21 aggregate DIII programs between the three conferences, it would seem to be in the best interests of the conference to either consolidate (to ensure everyone has a shot at AQs) or redistribute (to generate the maximum available number of AQs) somehow. I'm just not sure whether it holds any real power to make the East or Northeast schools go along with something like that.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Let's be clear here. The ONLY reason Manhattanville had a better record than Elmira this year is because they played Nichols, Assumption, and Curry while Elmira played Oswego three times. Reverse the schedules and you can reverse the records. They played each other four times, and they split. Elmira won the regular season title by the slimmest of margins, and the Valiants won their tourney the same way. With the margin between these two teams being so close, I think it came down to this: in the one, and only, time Manhattanville tested themselves out of conference they were manhandled by Williams. Ultimately their schedule bit them in the arse.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Last I heard, in the who beat who game ,EC beat Oswego---if they can do it so can M'ville -any way it's not your fault,my beefs with that ncaa -just venting.

Fact Check

Oct 23rd Elmira 2 at Oswego 7
Oct 24th Oswego 1 at Elmira 2
Jan 3rd Elmira 1 at Oswego 3

Dec 4 Elmira 5 at MVille 4
Feb 19 MVille 2 at Elmira 3
Feb 10 MVille 1 at Elmira 0
Mar 6 MVille 4 at Elmira 3

I think you got screwed too, but you can't hang with the Lakers...but I suggest you guys start scheduling them and some other tougher squads...and move conferences...

From what I've been told, Oswego has no desire to schedule Manhattanville.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

That's why you have a stronger schedule, to compensate the "Non-Auto Bid"
If M'ville wants to play with the big boys at the end of the season, they should play with them during the season.

Manhattanville has proven over the past decade, they are kind of a "big boy":

Since 2000-2001 season, their record is 165-46-24.

4th 20-win season is past 7 years.

That's kinda good.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

M'ville deserved to go...Elmira should be kissing the NCAA's _____
Elmira should be kissing the MASCAC. Without the MASCAC, there is no Pool B. Without Pool B, there is no Elmira.

East
1. NOR
2. OSW
3. MIDD
4. PLT
5. BOW
6. ELM
8. CUR
7. ADR

West
1. SNC
2. GAC
3. STT

Weds
STT @ GAC
ADR @ ELM
CUR @ BOW

Sat -- playing fast and loose with the seedings but playing the red card...
ADR/ELM @ OSW
CUR/BOW @ NOR
PLT @ MID
STT/GAC @ SNC

What might have been....(sigh!)

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Your opinion is that M'ville is 20-6-1 because of who they played ,my opinion is they would be 20-6-1 no matter who they played.

Good enough to join Hamilton in the NESCAC and earn an AQ :)

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I heard the same thing about Plattsburgh.... The team may want to play with the "big boys" but sometimes the "big boys" don't wanna play with them.

This line of argument is stupid. I think it's pretty obvious Oswego and Plattsburgh don't duck anyone.

Having said that, I would love it if Oswego did play Manhattanville one day - nice 30 minute drive from my home to Rye Playland.

Ahh, so replacing those games versus Conn College, Assumption, Becker, and Nichols, with let's say Plattsburgh, Oswego, Oswego, and Oswego, they'd still be 20-6-1. **** they're good.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

Can someone post the brackets I cant find them anywhere??
Not out there. Which makes me wonder if somebody threw down a gauntlet when they saw the bracket.

There is precedent. One year the 1st bracket had Hobart(?) going out West, but the rumor is the NCAA saw that and said try again.

The teams, I believe are set. Who plays where is not official until we see white smoke coming out of Stafford Arena. Whereupon Bruce Delventhal, the Dean of the Selection Committee, will step up to the microphone and announce "Habemus Bracketus!!". The crowd gathered in the parking lot will then shout with great joy as Bruce reads off the bracket.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

It's difficult to get teams to travel to Manhattanville. It's hard to get to for one game and not close to anyone else. The rink is quirky and the setup for visiting teams isn't ideal. It's a tough place to play.
