The definitive tournament speculation thread

Re: Elmira?

Re: Elmira?

I'm a western fan, so I really don't know the eastern teams very well. But could someone explain to me how Elmira got in over MVille? On pairwise rankings Elmira is significantly lower, Elmira has lost two of three recent games, in head to head pairwise rankings Elmira is lower, and most important MVille won the conference tournament. Isn't the tournament an automatic qualifier? Why, for example to pick a similar situation, wouldn't the committee just pick Gustavus (reg season champ) over St Thomas (playoff champ) and leave the Tommies out (I'm not advocating this) - does the ECAC West have a conference tourney that means less than others?

The ONLY answer I can give you is that the ECAC-w DOES NOT have an Auto Bid.

ECAC West does not have an automatic bid. If the whole league was awful, no team would get in. Apparently M'Ville's non conference schedule has held them back a bit.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

My son who has played on 3 National Championship teams(Pee WeeAA,BantamAAA and US Select-17) and wins his final ncaa tourney game because they were played on the ice doesn't get a chance to play for it all against the likes of EC. SNC, Oswego et.al not because M'ville doesn't deserve it ,but because this championship was based on the most outlandish criteria of all --opinion , well my opinion is that Mville are National Champions!Good night.

M'ville deserved to go...Elmira should be kissing the NCAA's _____

The ECAC West does not have an automatic qualifier because they have less than seven teams.

Therefore...there is what we call Pool B which is a separate at-large pool that is determined the same way as Pool C is...but only for teams in conferences without an automatic qualifier.

According to the numbers people, Elmira was still ahead of Manhattanville and that's why they are in. IMHO, and I'm an Elmira fan...M'ville should be in.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

SNC should have gotten a bye. Period. There were ways to protect the top seeds in each region. The easiest would have been to send Adrian east, but based on the rulebook, that was not possible. The other option was to hose Oswego and to a lesser extent Middlebury, etc., which I think would have been the lesser of two evils. At least that's what I picked to happen :o

Manhattanville got hosed as well. With LVC dropping out and no more unofficial autobid, the ECAC West is screwed.

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

This just in.....this eastern fan thinks that the west got screwed, and that Elmira & Plattsburgh don't deserve to be in the show. Manhatanville? MEH

Hey Chris...What do you think of Plattsburgh's draw vs Middlebury??
Do you think Platty should have played on Wednesday?

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I guess it pays to have representation on the committee. Worked for Neumann last year.

I bet Manhattanville jumps ship as soon as possible.

Elmira?

That helps - I forgot about the ECAC West not being an automatic qualifier, but still MV wins the conference tourney, beats Elmira the last two times they played - at "their place", i.e. on the road, have more wins, better pairwise numbers - I'm so confused. What numbers make Elmira a better team than MVille? I thought there was no politics in NCAA selections?

Re: The definitive tournament speculation thread

I'm an Elmira fan, and I'm as shocked by this as anyone. If they're gonna let us in, they should've let us both in and done an 8-3. That way, SNC would've had their bye, they could've dropped GAC, not to say they aren't deserving.
Manhattanville deserved a chance to show what they can do. I've been following Elmira College hockey since 1975, and this is the absolute weirdest thing I've ever seen the committee do. The Manhattanville fans have a legit beef.
This'll probably cement Manhattanville's proposed move to the ECAC-East, leaving the West with 4 teams.
The way to justify EC being there is to win. I'm obviously happy, but I'm as shocked as anyone.

So the committee should have ****'d gustavus adolphus because elmira can't win at the end of the season? Sure, that is soooo much fairer.
