Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

This is shaping up to be quite a year. Not even February and we could make a great band and a great 70s sitcom out of the people we've lost.

Wow. That hurts.

She was the epitome of "less is more." The only actor I can think of who could say more with silence is Jack Benny.

In the category of single movie examples great acting with minimal dialogue, I'll offer up Jean Reno in Leon: The Professional.

Former Providence mayor and guest of the Feds, Buddy Cianci.

A character

Best mayor evah! Reminded me of the old Boston mayor Curley quote: He was the best mayor we ever had. For every dollar he stole from us, he gave back 50 cents.

Great man for college hockey. At the 2000 Final Four(I refuse to use that marketing term), he made a mayoral proclamation that within something like a four block radius of the Providence Civic Center, you could carry an open container of alcohol. Second best Final Four I've ever been to. What a great weekend.

I realize film acting is often fragmented and out of context, but I wonder if there are many moments when those watching, including the director and others, recognize in the moment that they are witnessing something special, even in shoots with little drama. I wonder if there is a sort of quiet around the set for just a short while after such performances.

Or maybe the industry and the players have their own little end zone celebrations when someone nails a scene.

I loved his music. I believe he was married to Grace for a short period of time. Sad day.
Loved their stuff. Especially the early albums. Yes, i said albums! I still have all of them and actually 1 eight track they released along with a few cassettes.

One of my favorites from Buddy himself,

Cianci’s old quip about the Providence Journal is that if he walked across the Providence River, the Journal’s headline the next day would read “Cianci can’t swim”.

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Was a big of their earliest work and lot of it lives on in a band called the Black Angels if anyone wants to give them a try.

Dave Sime. Jan 12. Never heard of him until I read a small article in SI today and decided to look him up.

.
I remember that race. He was screwed by the false starts. All these years, I've been pronouncing his name wrong.

The connection with Ter-Ovanesyan was interesting also. He was a favorite to win in Mexico City, but after Bob Beamon beat the world record by two freaking feet, he said "We are children."

I also remember the race and was sure Hary jumped the gun in the final. Of course, today we would be treated to endless replays but in those days a very gracious Sime was satisfied (on the surface) with the silver medal. RIP great athlete and fine physician
