The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Walsh? That would really disappoint me. I loved him in The James Gang and have always assumed he dumpster-dove with the Eagles for the money, like Steve Martin making Father of the Bride.

I should have clarified that I was talking about Frey and Henley.

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Well, technically, it's not. He recorded it for the movie first, and they later included it on The Long Run. I'm not even sure if they re-recorded it with the other members of The Eagles, or just stuck his version on there.

Joe Walsh did a lot of music on his own even while with the Eagles. The James Gang was before it, and that's when he had his best stuff, IMO. At least the Eagles brought him in with good intentions - they wanted a real rock n' roll guitarist to play their actual rock guitar tracks.

Drew Magary is very funny. I recommend reading Fun Bag every week -- he's great.

His NFL stuff is great too. Especially the Why Your Team Sucks columns at the start of every season.

He's done a spinoff called Why Your Children's Television Program Sucks too. As someone with a niece obsessed with Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, I wanted to kiss his feet.

He can write about raising children without you wanting to kill him. That is a very rare skill. Why yes, Paul Reiser, I am telling you to go f-ck yourself.

The Gametime Cheap Beer of the Week segment in his NFL pieces is terrifying. He has readers who send him reviews of beers in Central Africa that come in paper cartons, have an ABV of 17, and are made from nickel cadmium and fermented head lice.

One of my hockey buddies used to work for [redacted], and when he was there they had a media server upon which someone had also loaded the Billboard Top 100 for each year going back to sometime in the 1940s. When he was getting laid off, he tossed a copy of the whole thing onto a thumb drive. He had much the same reaction you just described. The best stuff isn't necessarily the top selling work.
I wonder how many other people have this same story? In a way I do, but it's second hand. A friend of mine told me that he had the top 100 Billboard songs from 1959-2006 on some cd's that a DJ friend of his made, and my friend let me download them onto my computer.

I wonder if it's the same guy for all of us!?!?!?!

Anyway, when I finally got around to going through them, they thing that really stuck out for me was the "gag" songs. The Streak, Mr. Custer, Black Superman (Muhammad Ali), Snoopy vs. the Red Baron, probably more. Holy Jeebus!

Now I have this problem. Do I delete them? If I do, then technically I've destroyed the collection that was given to me. On the other hand, no way I can just throw shuffle mode on when people are over.

Regarding source - ARRRRRRRRR Matey!

Gag songs - Don't forget Convoy although I had that one before the Billboard collections

Mine are on my music hard drive as I'm loathe to ever throw away music when the only cost of keeping it is a few gb on my drive.

Oh, come on....on road trips, nothing provides some laughter like when you just get done jamming to Bohemian Rhapsody, and the next song is "Da Da Da" by Trio:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNYcviXK4rg Where does one know this from? Well:

I love you not
You love me not

ich lieb' Dich nicht
Du liebst mich nicht

(It gives the English portions of the song greater context and understanding.)

It's just catchy. *shrug* I actually have the CD. It sucks overall, btw.

Sure is, that's why they chose it for the commercial. You don't choose songs so bad they make people change the channel unless you're airing commercials for your competitors' products.

Unless you're Apple and want U2 songs.....

Bill Johnson, the first US skier to win Olympic downhill gold. His life was not a good one. :(

Bill Johnson, the first American skier to win an Olympic downhill title, has died after a long illness, the U.S. ski team said Friday. He was 55.

Megan Harrod, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Alpine team, said Johnson died Thursday at an assisted living facility in Gresham, Oregon.

Johnson's health had been on the decline for several years after a series of strokes.

Re: The Dead Thread: Yep. Still Dead.

Steve: Do you remember his first public statement after he won the Olympic Downhill? I guess money either never came or was wasted.

I think it may have been the latter. No one even gave a thought to him being on the medal podium before the race began.
