The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

BTW, was it just me or were the announcers on NESN VERY pro bc? It seemed that every goal that bc got was great and every time there was a skirmish they only mentioned the NU players.... Maybe that's me but that's what I noticed even when NU was winning. Someone else who was watching on NESN want to chime in?

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

I'm only like that during the beanpot. That is troll season on the boards! :D I may still chime in but I'm not anywhere near Beanpot thread levels at any other time of year.

Don't worry, I knew you were doing it all in good fun, just as my comment was a playful jab.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Well, I have congratulated NU and Harvard but haven't taken the time to congratulate BU on their 4th place finish.

Congrats to the Terriers.

Ah, the narrow passageways of life. If I had gone to Northeastern, as I thought I was going to in the fall of 2006, I'd have been a fifth year senior last night ready to jump off the balcony and off myself. As it were, I'm now taking a sick day from work because of too much happy reveling.

Good times, great game. I love the Beanpot. Northeastern will be back at the Garden in March if they have anything left in the emotional tank.

Honestly, that was the first time I ever felt slightly guilty that my team won a game. Northeastern really deserves one one of these years, and even though we play them in the first round next year I wouldn't begrudge them a win.

Also, eff BU.

I didn't see the TV broadcast, just the highlights, but I know Don Orsillo, who did play-by-play, is an NU alum. Maybe he was trying to play down his inner wishes. Or maybe you're just crazy. ;)

Ha, I already had that moment, for almost my entire senior year of high school I was sure I was going to NU, then 364 days after deciding on BU, after a little happy reveling myself, I called my parents from a crowded hotel lobby in DC and said "I would've killed myself if I went to Northeastern." Funny how life works out.

Edit: Not a knock on NU at all, I just grew up a BU fan, so if I switched allegiances the year before that magical season... would've been a rough time for my liver.

Pretty amazing that with all the great BC teams through the years, this is the first back-to-back Beanpot winning group in so long.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

A few notes from last night...
7) that being said, for the most part, NU fans were far more gracious than BU fans, probably owing to the fact that there isnt the same rivalry between BC and BU as there is between BC and NU. only one small group of fans tried yelling "BC still sucks" as we walked to the parking lot, but we started jumping up and down yelling "I believe that you have lost" at them, and the situation was quickly diffused. Other than that, the husky fans were very gracious, and deserve credit for that. it was a heartbreaking loss for them, especially on valentine's day, but they handled it with enough grace to get out with their heads held high. the NU students definitely represented their school well.

We had some clowns trying to start "**** BC" chants and we were like "Shutup morons. You want to chant like a stupid gorilla, transfer to BU."

This game has me really excited for the HE Tournament. Didn't think our team was THAT good but man when they need to be, they are. Hope they play with this same fire the rest of the season.

I know that Orsillo is an NU alum. I don't know, and maybe I am crazy, but that's how I saw it on NESN last night.

I didn't see the TV broadcast either, but you have to remember these guys do 0 college hockey, so its smart to side with "the # 1 team in country" which is why you always get the generic BC speed/talent quotes throughout the game, they just don't know enough to stray away from the talking points

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

I actually thought they were being PRO-NU [shrug].

And I agree with the lovey-dovey sentiments of everyone else. No animosity toward NU at all after that game. If I were there I would have rather seeked out BU fans to laugh at for losing to Harvard than chide a single broken-hearted NU fan.

The only reason I'm glad NU lost (as opposed to happy that BC won) is that now the next time I go to Boston, it won't be a pile of rubble.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

We had a shot in this game. I'm p! $$ed. We could have won that GD game. Why can't we have nice things?

Someone asked who won the eberly... It was Rawlings with a .919 save percentage. The worst sv. % that I can see for a winng tender is .816 in the 1980 pot (the eberly only goes back to 74 so if someone wants to check out those stats from further back, be my guest. I'm not doing it.)

I just hope this doesn't deflate them going into the next two games against bc this weekend. I know I'm deflated. You can't be brought back up like that with less than 2 mins to go in the game and have our hearts ripped out AGAIN and not be delated. Great game and I hate bc. Congrats. LET US WIN ONE!!!!

My guess is NU is flat on Friday and loses, but beats BC on Saturday in front of a charged Matthews crowd.
