The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Over the last three years, the fans at BC have really come out for hockey, much more than the past. I guess the next time BC is in the consolation game, we'll see how many fans come out. The BU crowd at the Beanpot the other night was laughable. I know its only the consolation, but would BU draw such a pathetic crowd if they played Harvard at Agganis on a mid-week non conference game? I doubt it sells out, but there would be a lot more fans then there were the other night. It just shows BU fans to be frontrunners if you ask me.

No. It doesn't. It shows 1) The casual fan doesn't care about a consolation game because they don't understand the PWR implications or anything like that and 2) A lot of fans have class and can't make it down to the Garden for a 4:30 game. Those are problems BU, BC and NU all face when it comes to the consolation game. That's just a fact. I've been to 8 Beanpots now and probably 4 or 5 consolation games, and I've never seen any team in the consolation game draw more than a few rows of students. The fact that you BC dolts seem to think this is only a problem for BU is laughable. It has nothing to do with how well the team draws for home games. A midweek game on campus at 7 is very different than a midweek game at the Garden at 4:30. I also find it hilarious that a BC fan is accusing BU fans of being frontrunners when you just posted this:

Gee, I wonder why that is...

BC has been dominant for 13 years, but the crowd is different now. Maybe its because hoops sucks, but its different. Much more into it.

Spin it any way you want, if that game was a regular season game at Agganis, there would be a ton more BU fans there. If BU fans are "great fans" ("our fans wear jerseys not t-shirts"), you'd think they'd come out and watch their team play (especially when they already paid for the tickets). I know you'd rather eat sand than put down your fellow fanboys, but its true.

Perhaps all your fans should be called into the coaches' office for a "bike ride", too. :)

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

I don't care much about how many fanboys were at the Garden for the consolation game. What I really want to know is if they were all wearing their jerseys. That is what's important!!!

Would it be optional??

I also think the fan support also has to do with the downward slope Francisco Spaziani has us on.

I guess I'm not really surprised though; after all, I can only imagine that rejection letter still stings deep.
Insert: "I could've gotten accepted at BC if I wanted to!!!!" or "I got into BC I just chose to go to BU!"

Let it be known that the Dog Pound from Roxbury Junior College had tshirt jerseys made up for this game, where does that stand in fandom??

I do have to take issue with this. As Slasher pointed out, it's not like BC has only been good for the last three years. I don't know why, but these things can be cyclical with many factors. BC crowds in the Brian Gionta era were pretty into the game. And over the last couple years I've seen an improvement. In between then, I didn't feel the students in general were that good. But, BC has been pretty consistent during this stretch, so I don't think it's a bandwagon fan issue.

If BU fans are "great fans" ("our fans wear jerseys not t-shirts"), you'd think they'd come out and watch their team play (especially when they already paid for the tickets).

Far be it from me to get involved in this, but I think this was Steve's point. The argument is that BC fans haven't claimed to be great fans like the BU students, etc. seem to do. So, if you're so great, why are you not showing up to support your team even when it's a consolation game. Don't shoot the messenger now...

Possibly, but he's at least stabilized and improved the recruiting. Let's see if that pays off...

We have a winner!

Someone gets it.

Well, I certainly didn't claim BU had some incredible fanbase that blows everyone else out of the water, but whatever. My point was simply that I think it's stupid to criticize any of the four schools for not having fans show up for the consolation. I think reasonable BC fans like yourself and Nick can understand that. Steve and Slasher... not so much.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

One thing I enjoyed during the championship game - they kept showing a younger couple on the video board - she was wearing an NU jersey, he was wearing a BC jersey. I believe it was the second time they went up on the video board, the NU section started cheering 'Break up! Break up! Break up!' I was amused.

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Am I the only one that thinks BU should have their 4th place ribbon upgraded to a 3rd place ribbon since NU was caught cheating?

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

The coach / asst coach (possibly) texting future recruits has got nothing to do with this year's team or outcome.. or the way they played you all week.. but feel free to distribute the ribbons any way you like.. :)

So "possibly" makes it look like you're not sure what happened but you're positive it didn't affect this year's team. Is there a published report that has this information? If so, we'll let NU keep their 2nd place plaque and add it to the large display case full of hardware at Matthews Arena! :D

In the meantime, I think BU should get the 3rd place ribbon. Shoot first ask questions later. Jack needs something to sell recruits other than the arena and since the team isn't doing so well and he's kicking guys off the team left and right this might help him.

Picked up another recruit today...I think Mr. Parker(don't want anyone to think I call him by a short name because that is just messed up right?) is doing ok in the recruiting department despite what the SuperFrauds wish to believe. Another Mass guy too. Danny O'Regan from St. Sebastian for fall 2013

Congrats, you got a 2nd rate local recruit (who is a BU legacy). I'm sure he's going to light it up at BU. Of course, if he tries to study for an exam he could end up dismissed from the team like another 2nd rate local recruit.

Throw a party if that's what floats your boat. Hooray, BU recruited a 2nd rate local kid. Parker rules! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a little early to determine what the kid will do but he was considering Northeastern,Yale,...etc so it isn't like he got an offer because of his dad. I am sure it didn't hurt and yes yes of course everything comes back to Andy Glass...how could I be so silly to think otherwise? Collier is a second rate recruit too right? I am sure Coyle is a second rate pro prospect right? But hey hey Cam Atkinson for Hobey! Do you like me yet?

Re: The 59th Annual Beanpot Tournament

Miele has the Hobey in the bag.

Sorry, had to keep this thread going...
