Decent goaltending is a big if right now. Offense, no question if an NC was won on that alone, good shot. Defense, weak link this season, like to see them get stronger and more physical but not sure the coach wants that? I think the D will improve next season.

It seems that the D focused more on putting the puck into the net as years past since there was no goal scoring production from the forwards leaving them vunerable in the plus/minus dept. One encouraging sign the penalty kill improved towards the latter part of the season

To be fair a three seed in 1999 doesn't equate with a 3 seed today. 12 team bracket and all.

If you look at the last few years in the tournament, I don't think it much matters what seed you are as long as you get in.

Question for mainuhs.....you're a first year coach....and you get to pick one of these two to start with......which one.....Howard or PKariya?

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

I'll go against the grain and say Howard. My team will only need 1 goal a game to win.:D ;)

Kariya.......but only because Simon Danis-Pepin was not a choice. If he had been...;)

you think it would matter if Tim were coach?

Tim would put either one at D, make them poke check and not hit, play the point on the PP and never clear the crease out for whomever the goalie is.

Putting the Kariyas aside, which former Maine players with the same last name would you most like to have in order to start a team (they do not have to be related)?

Re: The 3rd official 09-10 Maine season thread: Bubble-icious

That strategy didn't work out too well against Denver......

also, if you remember what Paul looked like his sophomore season, it was not the same at all...

he used to make blind passes that completely fooled the D, AND his linemates... I remember quite a few passes through the crease that would have been tipped in the previous season, when he played with Jimmy and Cal. Cal lost a step or 2 the next year and Paul Kariya was nowhere near as effective.. I thought he left, at least in part, because he did not have the supporting cast in place any more.

besides the Ryans, who had the same last name and was not related?

I might start with the Standbrooks.... Grant and anyone else who could do anything else he/she wanted to, as long as Grant were in the mix.

You also have to keep in mind that he only played 12 games with Maine that year and never got as good a chance to develop the same chemistry he had with Ingraham/Montgomery.

1. Clarks (Wes, Trapper, Brett)
2. Montogomeries (Jim and Dwight)
3. Were David and Brendan Walsh related? if not, the Walshes.
4. Believe it or not, there was another Purcell from 83-85 in addition to Ted.
5. There were two Kings (Scott and Chad). No idea if they were related. If you could start with them, could it help bring Steven King back as a big supporter?
