Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

are you high?
you protest too much when people ask ... after you say how hilarious it is to incessantly pick on gay students (that they really need to live with incessant needling)... whether it is also ok to burn crosses... and then you (projectingly) write that casual racism is a charming part of my repertoire.

I welcome disagreement, I do not welcome idiocy shrouded in superiority "because I am an airline pilot and therefore I know more than you"

What the heck are you talking about?

When have I ever posted anything remotely close to what you are saying? Also I am not an airline pilot. You appear to have me confused with someone else.

It all makes sense in KIA world. He frequently confuses me with someone who gives a damm what he thinks. :p

I hear that. The problem is he or she deleted his/her post after I quoted it. His/her original post that was deleted clearly quoted my post and what followed was just absolute horsechit. I have never and would never post anything like he or she stated and I would like an explanation from him/her.

Yeah, I see he has used the delete button quite liberally. Looks strange to see a post quoted that no longer exists...

Interesting note from Commissioner Bertagna

COMMISSIONERS CORNER with Joe Bertagna

One of the realities of a Commissioner’s world is that we must be a picture of neutrality at all times. When we go to games, we can’t so much as grin when one conference team does something at the expense of another. We learn to sit there stoically as if we are watching a PBS special about the national park system.

Having said that, I am going to break with protocol and offer that it has been a good thing for Hockey East that the University of Maine has returned to the national college hockey conversation. This is a team that was chosen to finish #8 in the pre-season Coaches’ Poll, skated 14 freshmen and sophomores this past weekend, and currently sits tied for second (with BC) in the Hockey East standings.

I made my annual visit to Alfond this past weekend and feeling the atmosphere once more, and recalling many previous trips to the building, I was reminded of a conversation I had with a veteran hockey observer many years ago. I was working in the ECAC at the time, and this person made the observation that the ECAC needed Cornell and RPI to be strong. They were storied programs who had won NCAA titles and had terrific buildings, both in terms of size and atmosphere. Similarly, it is in Hockey East’s interest for Maine Hockey to be strong. Like Cornell and RPI, Maine has multiple NCAA titles, a loyal fan base that travels well, and while new buildings pop up on the landscape, there is nothing like the feel and tradition of some of our older facilities.

Now that I have alienated 90% of the schools for whom I work, I will stand by my contention that night after night, I really don’t care who wins. I save my cheering for the Red Sox and my high school hockey program. The office staff just wants the many key battles for first, fourth, and eighth to go down to the wire. Once again, it seems, we may get our wish.

Maineiak thanks for posting on this thread. Joe will likely get some negative feedback for throwing this out there but I applaud him for doing so. I saw Joe on Friday night and was miffed at the fact Maine did not get a home NESN game this year. But it is planned likely based upon recent results. This was also my annual trip, and the atmosphere was back before, during and after the game. I think more than anything that is what Joe is referring too! Maine like UNH to a certain is extent is vital to the success of HE. Our fans are among the most loyal, and the number of Maine jerseys at Frozen Fours among teams not participating is so impressive.

Hockey East needs Maine to help fill the Garden, to make NCAA and help fill Albany or Worcester. I'm bias, but the energy is just not the same in other buildings. UVM one day could join Maine and UNH in terms of fan base and following, but they are still newbies to the league. Kudos to Joe for calling it as he sees it, and next year hopefully he'll work on a NESN game or two in Maine!

I am not an airline pilot, but I am the one that thought (and still do think) he was (is) a racist.

Please, KIA, give me credit where it is do.

Read the UNH thread.......we're in their heads again! :D

I can't blame them for not ever forgetting that game. Maine losing to BU in the 95 title game is one of the worst things as a Maine fan that I can remember and will never forget. The game was not even really close, like the two other title game losses, but losing the title to a conference rival was awful. UNH not only lost a heartbreaker but lost to a bitter conf rival.:D

The game on February 19, 1993 was pretty bad too. Of course, the eventual title was pretty sweet. ;)

Funny you mention that. I believe that was the loss in overtime against BU, the only loss that season. At lunch today I saw an old friend of mine who went to that game with me and he brought that game up.

I was there and while it bothered me you had to know Maine was going to lose long before the game was played. BU was the start to finish best team in the nation and Maine played 2 games in one in the Semi. The Michigan game was awesome and I'll never forget that. 2002 bothers me way more than 95

Didn't Maine sweep BU in the RS,though?Or am I wrong yet again?(The USCHO BU schedule archive doesn't go back that far,BTW.)

Maine went 3-0-1 against BU in the regular season. 3 of the 4 went to OT.

I've never been more sure of anything than walking into the TD Fleetnorth Garden Center for the game against Denver. That one still stings.

That one was rough, but I didn't feel that Maine got jobbed as they did in '02.

The silver lining is that I have derived great pleasure watching every Minnesota loss since, and the last couple of years have been especially fun. :D

Re: The 2nd official 09-10 Maine season thread

Read the UNH thread.......we're in their heads again! :D

With all due respect, my post on the UNH thread wasn't about how Maine's outstanding program drives us crazy. Our heartbreaking loss in the '99 Championship game would have had the same demoralizing effect if it had been against any other team in the country.

It is fun to see Maine back in the hunt (I know my sister, a UMaine grad, is thrilled). My only suggestion for improving the rivalry would be to move one of the Maine home games to Portland. That would balance out having one of the UNH "home" games in Manchester every other year.
