The 2024 GQP Thread: Because Deutsche Gopher Fan ENDED the Last One

I think the larger and longer-term consequences stemmed from Ford's pardon. He shouldn't have done it, and Nixon should've been held accountable. But hindsight is 20/20.

mookie thought without this stuff putting bork in the public's eye in such a way, maybe then he does get confirmed and we never get clarence thomas. bork then dies in 2012 and obama gets to put a body in there.

I’m sure lew from Maine (can’t remember your full handle, sorry), could speak to how much more care is provided to babies postpartum than women. Women generally have one follow-up visit 6 months after their child is born, and that’s about it. Postpartum depression, even psychosis, is often overlooked because of the lack of follow-up care. Babies, on the other hand, have plenty of follow-up visits. 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, etc. As they should. But women need more too.

From 2022 CDC: 10.4/1,000 for black babies in the U.S. 4.4/1,000 for non-Hispanic white.

I knew it was heavily influenced by race but MS is like 40% black. That's not just race, that's shitty government (not implying you didn't understand that)

Absolutely. I said an in earlier post that no money + poor healthcare, coupled with high levels of black people, played a role in the numbers being the way they are. Not expanding Medicaid to lower-income individuals means poorer health outcomes too, so that’s where government comes into play. That, and restricting the hell out of certain procedures and/or making them illegal when they are legal everywhere else in the world, much less the United States, means that the healthcare industry’s greatest minds (nurses, doctors, etc.) don’t stay and/or practice in MS, AL, LA, etc. Double-edged sword.

The postpartum thing is particularly confusing given how often it's used as a plot device on TV shows these days.

While we as a country will talk about awareness and all that, the fact remains that we collectively don't give a shit about mental health, and we especially don't care about women's mental health.

Look at what our new Speaker has said about his wife.

Being on the frontline of mental health, I couldn’t agree more.

I mean we call the cops for many mental health situations...so to say we are doing it wrong is an understatement. My SO could go off for days (trust me she has) about her experiences with how even Blue States have no idea what they are doing when it comes to dealing with mental health. (especially in schools)

Agreed. I think Christie at first thought he would spin the idiots to enable his own career. Only then did he realize that Trump’s web was already too well spun, and decided to call them out on loving the wrong spider.

And yes, Christie had a head start on the derpdom web. That said, it doesn’t change the actual truth of what he said.

I would give him more credit if he hadn't voted for Trump twice and if he didn't say (before running) he would likely do it again. The guy is a huckster...and like all the GOPers who lost their jobs before him he only changed his tune cause it helped his future. He will vote Trump in '24.

So this is relevant. I'm in, or was in, a hockey chat on the Line app with a bunch of old gaming buddies. There's one MAGA chud in there that I mostly ignore because mostly he keeps is repugnant nonsense out of the chat. But today people got on about more arenas not taking cash at all. For the most part it was fine, but this chud was going full-troglodyte, whining that he boycotts any company that won't take cash or that embraces technology too much, and how he wanted the practice banned. I pointed out that business like sports arenas are not accepting cash for financial reasons - the cost of managing shit tons of cash is greater than the Visa fees - and they would do it until there was a meaningful fan backlash. That I thought he was pro-business, and that government should be out of business's ... business!

Well he tried to Chuck it and turn it into some moral statement on people who rely too heavily on technology, and I'd had enough.

The right is pathetic. Make a stupid, emotion-filled argument that's wildly hypocritical and then lash out and deflect when that is pointed out.
