The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Re: USA Olympic Team on Ellen

Re: USA Olympic Team on Ellen

Furthermore, thinking only about Canada is a sure way to get women's hockey thrown out of the Olympics and having it die outside North America. Then there will hardly be a point of having a national team at all.
Careful my friend, that kind of thinking might get you ex-patriated.....they're pretty serious up there!!!!

Meanwhile....

Yaaaawwwwwnnnnnnnnn

Another ho hum tilt........I think I'll go out to the nearest Interstate overpass and count red volkswagons..... yeah, that might be more fun.

Whatever the right answer is, somehow.....for this to meet the spirit intended by having Olympic Games in the first place, the playing field for participation simply has to be leveled.

Require every one to Centralize.... Require every one NOT to centralize..... Require every one a limited amount of centralization....Incorporate some form of "term limit" so that rosters become more full of enthusiastic younger players who God forbid, might make a mistake or two, and yet make the game more interesting just the same.

I'm impressed by Poulin's, Knight's, etc. Tell Wickenheiser, Potter, etc. to get a whistle.....or even, a real job!

Grrrrrrrrrrr

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Hockey and Hockey Canada, the women's hockey is treated as seriously as the men's program. If we go to the Europeans -- the Finns, Swedes, Russians, Swiss -- that's not the case," Mr. Szemberg said. "In those countries I just mentioned, I would say 75% to 80% of the resources go towards the men. The leftovers go towards the women. Unless this attitude is changed, we will not have a dramatic change in results in major tournaments."

Actually, I think it is safe to say the same percentages would apply here in North America. Of course, the difference in what is spent on the women's programs here vs. across the pond is pretty substantial in and of itself. There is also the disparity in what the budget is north of the border and what is spent in the US.

Live Blog will go live in less than 5 minutes for those watching at home that want to discuss and for those at work that wont be able to watch.
Thanks for the blog and all of your work on it -- it was fun.

Ice is Nice has left the building. He, a Mercyhurst fan, thinks that dominance should be shared, not earned. Go figure:confused:

I thought the final 2 periods of the game tonight were entertaining, and I found myself wondering why USA wasn't scoring at will. Guess what??!! Finland took a little too long to find their legs, and have a stellar goalie who was on her game, and for 40 minutes of 60, we saw some pretty good hockey.

Too bad Ice was on HGTV watching paint dry. Or, better yet, making WHOOPIE pies:D :D :D :D :D

Seven.... grrr.... doesn't anyone drive VW's anymore?

So, other than the penalty shot, the game must have obviously been intense! I mean....look at how much is written about it on this thread!

Actually, I went to go watch my son and his street hockey team (the Shockers, a bunch of twenty somethings in a once a week beer league) as they pitted their tenth place record out of 12 teams against the eighth place Headhunters. It was 5-3 Shockers heading to the third period, but on a bad line change, the Headhunters managed to draw within one. Shockers took a dumb penalty with a minute plus remaining, and had to finish the game shorthanded while the Headhunters had pulled their goalie. Shockers held on for the win, 5-4

Now you tell me which game was the better game to watch?

The live blog made for a better discussion format, so that's where most of us were.

Did Kacey Bellamy ever make it back on the ice after blocking that shot? She looked to be in quite a bit of pain (didn't see where it hit her).. Hopefully she's ok and it was precautionary..

Well, considering the health hazards of attending a game at Hockeytown, I'd say the one everyone else stayed home for! :p

She was back - she missed a shift or two, but actually played really well afterwards.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Canada's gonna eat up all those rebounds the USA was giving away today. Lots of improvements to make before the big game.

Re: The 2010 Winter Olympics Women's Ice Hockey Tournament

Mleczko was better today.

And as I now start to remember that this is the way it went last time, Cammi Granato was good tonight. She is really starting to come into good form.

That is great!!!! I thought China did pretty good in their game against Finland considering they only have 67 girls playing hockey in the whole country (according to the article)
