The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

What about Tiago Machado?

Ok, I'm probably not serious there so yeah, I think its got to be Brajkovic.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

LL Sanchez won the Clasica San Sebastian with a sprint win over breakaway companions Vino and Sastre. Sounded like a much tougher course this year, which brought the climbers out.

Zubeldia, in his first race back from injury, got 4th.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Sounded like a great race! It really seemed like the chase group was racing for 4th , except Gesink who dragged everyone.

And I know they included the Jazikel twice as well as the shorter following climb, so yeah it was tougher.

One of the posters on RBR is kind enough to upload YouTube clips for many races, and he posted a couple clips from today's race:

This one is the 2nd climb of the Jaizkibel, which includes the main selection and LL Sanchez's monster attack that broke it up:

And then the final few km:

They're not in English, but it's nice to be able to watch some of the action.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Thanks for the links, the fact that they were sporza isn't a big deal, I almost never get to watch cycling in English!

That was a huge effort from LuLu and I'd forgotten the other Sanchez has the cracked arm until I saw the kinseotape on it. Tour of Poland starts tomorrow, Bauke Mollema needs to win the thing for the Netherlands to get 9 riders for the World Championship.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

What is everyone's opinion towards the recent trend in cycling? I am referring to the trend of more and more teams. In the last couple of years you have 4 US teams, BMC, Columbia, Garmin & The Shack instead of 1, Discovery/Postal, Cervelo, Katusha and Sky without one of the other major grand tour teams going under. Then next year we add the Luxembourger team. Basically it pretty much assures some of the major teams being left off a Grand Tour like The Shack for this year Vuelta. Also a lot of teams have at best a marginal GC contender or are almost completely sprinter based.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Announcement for Riis' "new" team tomorrow:

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/riis-set-to-name-saxo-bank-replacement-on-tuesday

Sponsor and possibly Contador?

So basically the Schleck's new team is CSC without Cancellara and Richie Porte, though Velonews says that Chris Anker Soresen is going to stay with Riis as well. While Riis new team is these guys plus the Spaniards from Astana. I hope the Schlecks find some more guys as Jens and Stewie are bit long in the tooth. Although Fukalsang and Nikki Sorensen should provide some depth.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Sounds like the riders want to get away from Riis.

I had the same thought but then I realized that most of these guys had been with CSC for years so not really sure what the reason is Schlecks offering big $$$ ?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

I heard the Schleck's team would have a good number of German/former Milram riders too...Cioleck and Gerdermann included. Fuglesang/N. Sorensen/Gerderman/F.Schleck is a strong last 4 guys...rivaling anything I can think of can put forward...
Also Scarponi to Lampre so likely Cunego to Geox (former Footon).

Also heard S. Sanchez to Vacansoleil. EE can match the offer but they have limited funds and with Samu's points they would qualify for all GTs next year.

Final edit, since it deals more with my favorite team...Kash resigns with Lampre and DiLuca will sign with Lampre when his ban ends (in time for Vuelta 2011), also it sounds like Petacchi and Hondo will resign.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Contador to Riis is confirmed.
Also, Saxo Bank stays on as a main sponsor, so the team will now be called Saxo Bank-SunGard.

Now it will be interesting to see which riders go with the Schleck's to their Luxembourg team and which go/stay to Saxo Bank with Contador.

Also, it sounds like Ricco might be joining a ProTour team shortly and hopes to ride the Vuelta still this season.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Since you bring it up

Despite what it says, I think that Cunego is headed for Geox. And that would make a mean two headed monster if Ricco went there as well. But I am still kinda hoping for QST.

They would make a fun tandem to watch on the same team. Neither would go for the GC, but both would be on the attack in the mountains and cause some havoc.

Maybe Ricco could come up with a signature winning salute like Contador...but instead of doing the pistol he could pretend to inject something into his arm. :D

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Geox was a partial sponsor of the Lampre team this year. I'll miss seeing Cunego in their colors, and wish he would stay.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Yeah, I'm a big Cunego and Lampre fan so it was perfect for me! I really optimistic about the Scarponi signing, he was, what, 4th this year with virtually no team. Perhaps with Lampre supporting him, he steps up higher on the podium.

As for Conti, I don't think it is possible, but if he can win the Giro "straight from the beach" maybe he can. The specific routes would be key and a mega-strong team.

Since I've been on a Lampre roll lately: More Cunego/Lampre Rumors...

How can you not love a team with kit like this?

I've got three of their jerseys now, one of each of these pictured, the short and long sleeve, and one of theirs from last season. Love 'em, my favorite jerseys.
