The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Why does Vino always look like he's about to cry at the end of these miserable, hard stages?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Wow, the maglia rosa group finishes 12:45 behind the stage winner.

Epic fail on the parts of the GC team leaders part. But honestly, Astana and BMC didn't have the firepower to bring back a break with that much ability in it.
I'm surprised Liquigas didn't push the peloton more though with both Basso and Nibali missing out.

Looks like this Giro just turned upside down. Vino and Evan's Grand Tour victory hopes just hit a major hurdle. Wow.

Richie Porte now leads the Giro (and the young riders jersey as well).
Reminiscent of Pereiro's Tour ride from the Landis year?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Your new top 8 in GC:

1 Richie Porte (Aus) Team Saxo Bank 45:30:16
2 David Arroyo Duran (Spa) Caisse d'Epargne 0:01:42
3 Robert Kiserlovski (Cro) Liquigas-Doimo 0:01:56
4 Xavier Tondo Volpini (Spa) Cervelo Test Team 0:03:54
5 Valerio Agnoli (Ita) Liquigas - Doimo 0:04:41
6 Alexander Efimkin (Rus) AG2R La Mondiale 0:05:16
7 Linus Gerdemann (Ger) Milram 0:05:34
8 Carlos Sastre Candil (Spa) Cervelo Test Team 0:07:09

Where are Vino and Evans? ;)

I'm guessing only because he is about to cry. :) At least I would be.

Does Astana have the bench to make sure something like this doesn't happen to Contador in France or will he just have to pay attention all the time?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

That's the look. Similar to this.

This is one ugly dude.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Someone needs to give the BMC, Liquigas and Astana team managers a nice hard slap. I can't believe they let a 50 man break go. it's funny that a lot of the managers said they didn't know how big the group was until they had 8 minutes is this a symptom of everybody having radio's? The riders don't think for themselves and start to chase down a break unless the manager tells the so. They let Sastre and Wiggins back into the overall annd gave David Arroyo a big lead they will have to take back.

No doubt.
I think this quote from cyclingnews sums it up:

To the question "how much of a climber are you?," Porte said, "I didn't lose that much time the other day."

Porte finished 26 seconds behind Vinokourov and Evans on the Terminillo climb at the conclusion of stage eight and the former Giro leaders are now 9:58 and 11:10 behind him respectively.

The last week is brutally tough, and anything can happen...but hardly any of the guys in the current top 10 are slouches. You have guys like Sastre, Wiggins, Tondo, Arroyo, Porte, Efimkin, etc. It's going to be hard for Evans/Vino to make up that amount of time against some pure climbers like Sastre and Tondo.

These last 10 stages are going to be fun. :)

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

So how many former teammates of Lance getting caught (and half of them saying Lance did it too) doping does it take before people actually believe Lance did it too?

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

pardonme, not sure, I spent too much effort arguing with people during the TDF last year to say for sure...None-the-less, the last 10 K here got interesting since Garzelli and Scarponi just attacked! Also Basso, Nibali, Vino, Pinotti...Evans and Porte gaped and Evans is isolated, again. Forgot to mention also Pineau and Voeckler too are in the group also Cunego.

HA! Evans is having "contretemps" with Lampre riders! Little bit of handbags! Eurosport FTW!

I *think* that Italy has the monkey off their back as Pippo claims it barely ahead of Voeckler...

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Evans, biitching and slapping like a girl cause he's pizzed that he missed the break. Probably the Lampre riders were getting to the front and then soft-pedaling so Cunego would have a chance at staying away. And little girlie Evans took offense.

I used to really like the guy when he first joined the peloton, that first Giro he rode, but can't stand him now.

Re: The 2010 Cycling Thread!

Landis came clean today.

Same old story.
I follow professional cycling with the belief that they are all doping. Sure, there are probably some that aren't, but either way these are the most talented cyclists in the world, some just cheat more than others.
Either way, some of the tidbits in Floyd's story are crazy...payoffs to the UCI to avoid positive tests, a fridge in Lance's apartment with blood, etc.

I get annoyed with both the "Lance Lovers" and the "Lance Haters".
Both sides belief so strongly in their argument that you can't even have a normal conversation with them about the subject. :)

Evans sure acts like a little beyotch sometimes. It makes it hard to root for him. It's his own fault for missing the move. If he's that angry about it, get all four of the remaining BMC riders up there and bring them back. ;)

That's if they're still even up there in the main group.

Exactly.
That's another thing that's wrong with Evans. He is horrible at picking teams that could support him in Grand Tours. :D

I'm with you. The lovers can't seem to see what is right in front of their face. The haters can't seem to deal with the fact that Lance didn't have any significant advantage over what his opponents were taking.
