The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

Have a ticket for the first round; and here are the scenarios:
1) BC beats Harvard in the early game, I am jubilant, get to hang around and root for the Huskies (if you other BC fans say you're rooting for a BU-BC final, you are either a) lying, or b) too young to know better), and generally enjoy several hours of awesome college hockey, and have fun for a week anticipating a possible Beanpot.
2) BC loses to Harvard, I am devastated, have to mope out of the Garden, suffering the slings and arrows of Harvard, BU & NU fans on my way, and silently pray that "anyone but BU" wins the thing.

Here's to a complete lack of middle ground! At least this time I won't be out in the snow.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I dunno... if BC loses to Harvard, I'll still be there rooting like heck for an NU-Harvard final. Because that would be a lot of fun. I'd rather see BC win of course, but I wouldn't begrudge those two teams eventually meeting for a final.

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

What's the closest we've been to Harvard - NU?

Last year was pretty close, BU needing the GWG with less than two minutes left against Harvard before NU crushed BC... but has NU/Harvard ever won the first game followed by the other game going into OT?

I guess that's as close as you can get.

it happened in 1989:

February 6, 1989 (14,448)
Harvard 5, Boston College 4
Boston U. 5, Northeastern 4 (OT)

also, 1965 must have been a crazy beanpot to attend:

13th February 8, 1965 (13,058)
Boston U. 5, Northeastern 4 (3OT)
Boston College 5, Harvard 4 (OT)

good source here: http://www.beanpothockey.com/results.html

also noticed both '99 first round games went into OT. I remember the BU-BC OT clearly but I forgot the first game went into overtime. that goal by (Russ Bartlett?) must have happened pretty late that night.

i don't think there's ever been a tournament where both semifinals and the final went into overtime, but some teams have won the 'Pot with two overtime wins

Re: The 2010 Beanpot: Featuring One Team Under Consideration

I feel like we're likely to see comeback wins by BC and BU on Monday - BC, because the favored team always seems to come out sleepy for the start of the 5 PM game, and BU because NU has a tendency to build their fans up before crapping on their hopes and dreams in the most painful way possible.

I have no idea what you're talking about...

I was pretty impressed with BC when we played them back in November. I'd say it's an easy win for them, but we all remember the Harvard/BU matchup from last year.

As for the NU/BU matchup, we all know by now that BU is a much better team than their record indicates. NU played well against UML yesterday but missed a number of opportunities. If they're capable of picking up on Monday where they left off, then I see this being a bit of a nail biter. If not... there's always next year (again)!
