Isles lose 5-4 in a 22-player shootout (11 shooters for each team). Only 3 goals were scored in the shootout. Chris Clark with the shootout winner for the Caps.

The Caps like engaging in long shootouts...

They were on the short end of that 15? round classic with the Rangers that Marek Malik won with his infamous between the legs shot. Easily, the only positive thing Ranger fans every remember him doing while wearing the broadway blueshirt.

This is a pretty good job of spin meistering.

You're still wrong.

How? The Bruins have don't have a player that has been scoring. Losing a top-10 scorer in Savard is huge. The Penguins at least still have Sidney Crosby.

I see what you're trying to get at, but you're grossly downplaying how good Malkin is. In case you haven't noticed, the Penguins have been pretty brutal at scoring lately and while they're addled with injuries themselves, being without Malkin is a major reason why. A team focusing all of their attention on Crosby makes the game a little easier to play.

Malkin can have a bigger effect on any game than Savard, since he's a better player, and therefore is a bigger loss. It doesn't matter who else is on the team -the Pens were missing better players than the Bruins were, and the guys in the press box for Pitt could have affected the game more than the guys in the press box for Boston.

Example 1: They lost to the Wild, at home.

With no one to pass to to score...how is having Savard back in the lineup going to increase scoring?

I think people are forgetting that the Bruins had a longer shutout streak than the Penguins. The Bruins are 24th in the NHL and scoring and the Pens are 12th. I am not denying the fact that Malkin is an unbelievable player but the Penguins are still a better team than Boston when all the injuries are taken into consideration.

Like any good player, Savard makes everyone around him. He provides offense through creativity which has been lacking with this team. The Penguins losing Malkin drops them down a few notches but the Bruins losing Savard knocks them down even more because they don't have too much to rely on at the movement.

I see the point Eagles is trying to make, but I'm not on board with it. If two players are very close in talent than maybe it holds water, but not for Malkin vs Savard & Lucic.

Regarding Lucic, I don't have anything against the guy, but I'm sure in all cities in every sport there's always somebody who's press clippings outweigh their actual accomplishments. He fits that bill, and through no fault of his own (its not like he's trying to call attention to himself). He is vastly overpaid, but that's the team's fault. What I will say is that I'm disappointed in his reaction to Walker taking out two Bruins during last year's playoff series. Maybe I'm getting old ;) but when I was first watching the B's play, with guys like O'Reilly, Stan Jonathan or even Milbury on the ice Walker wouldn't have been around to score the game winning goal in OT of Game 7. That was Lucic's job to dole out some justice, and he didn't do it.

I hate the shootout and I hate the Bruins. The Bruins tried 4 straight dekes on Vokoun and all but one had no chance. Try shooting the puck. Julien even put out Chara who took it to the right wing boards and tried to go short side. Unreal.

Panthers win 1-0.

That's a brutal loss for Boston. It sounded like they dominated the second period and just could not solve Vokoun to save themselves.

I heard the 2nd period on the radio and watched the 3rd period to the end on TV. They had so many weak shots, Vokoun barely had to try. Wideman skates with the puck end to end and puts a lazy wrister on net. Several odd-man rushes with no shots on net. I am sick of this team playing lazy hockey. Way too many neutral zone turnovers, no hustle, no life in them.
