Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Theo Fleury announced that he was molested Graham James. Awful. Fleury writes that "the direct result of my being abused was that I became a f---ing raging, alcoholic lunatic," according to the report in MacLeans. (from espn)

Also, Johan Franzen is out four months with a torn ACL. So far there have been some big injuries this season.

That was a nice welcome to San Jose he had.

Nabby still sucked and our defense is atrocious, but man, if we can keep it in the offensive zone like we did last night, who cares!

Someone should remind Nabby that this is a contract year.

Four months my ***. Morrow was out 6 months last year with the same. They'll be lucky to see him for the playoffs.

So, of these long term (10+ years) contracts

DiPietro- Injury prone
Hossa and Franzen- Starting theirs injured.

*snicker*

Well, I don't think the Caps regret the Ovechkin contract. I think the Flyers are okay with Richards'.

I don't think 10 year contracts are bad per se, but you have to be very judicious in determining who to give them to.

Most of these injuries are kind of freak things, DiPietro's aside. Of course the long term deals are why there's going to be a lockout in a few years so don't worry, everything will come to a head somehow.

Stupid league.

Technically, Hossa signed his while injured. Now he's just rehabbing, and I suppose healthier than he was on July 1.

Whats the deal with Dipietro? I can't even remember what his injury was (shoulder?). Is he expected back anytime soon?

Lots of hip issues and surgeries. I think he is practicing full time now and is due back in a couple of weeks. I don't know what the Isles do with having him, Roloson, and Biron all on the roster.

In what may be the worst kept secret in AHL the Wolves are expected to sign chelios and legace monday once the wolves return from manitoba.

i'm confused as to how i feel about it. maybe these two will provide some spark.

as it stands, they're the best team on paper

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

The Moulson v Bitz battle is 2-0 Isles late in the second, and we were just described by the Bruin announcers as "the once lowly Islanders."

Baby steps.

Islanders Point Blank (a good blog) has him returning around Thanksgiving. The team neither confirms nor denies, etc.

We're fine with Roloson and Biron right now. Even after DP comes back I'd hold them both -- dude's made of glass.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Herr Bettman (c) GLM almost sounds smart in his interview in the Devils/Florida game right now.

Rips baseball "play-in" game because it's "not a physical sport like hockey, where a play-in game can't be done because of that." But no worries. He also claimed that every game matters in the NHL season. I think that's a bit of a stretch, given the season's length and how many teams make the playoffs.

Nice job by the Wild to outplay and outshoot the Sharks for 2 periods and yet still be trailing 3-2 (after leading 2-0).

SOG is a very overrated stat. Just sayin'.

Re: The 2009-10 NHL regular season thread: Slightly less meaningless hockey

Helluva comeback by the B's tonight.

Nice to see the B's try for the final 10 min of the game but it should never have happened. Right now the team isn't playing well as a unit and they are making every team look like Cup contenders.

I really think they need to get out on the road. Its a young club and its certainly possible they bought into their own hype. I think they need to get back into a road environment where they feel that they have to prove themselves to the other team's crowd.
