Re: Team USA--WJC

The original penalty on us (I'd assume interference), the kneeing makes it 4-on-4.

Closing the hand on the puck was the call on us.

It does, at 44:03.

On the one hand, the whistle should never have blown. On the other hand, you can see the guy blowing the whistle on the replay before the puck crosses the line. Unless the puck crossed the line on the 1st shot, that was a dreadful call. Thankfully it didn't hurt us.

The USA is now guaranteed a medal. They play the winner of Russia/Sweden at the more palatable (for east coasters) 8am start time on Saturday.

Perhaps one of the oddities around that the whistle blows to signify a goal in international play. Sure, it might matter for shutout stats purposes, but at the end of the day, USA scored more than 1, and so we move on.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Awesome win. Not just beating Canada, but kicking their arse.

Think I'll go troll tsn.ca for a bit. :D

They don't take these losses very well up there although they must be starting to get used to it. Is this 4 years in a row with no gold?

Re: Team USA--WJC

So glad I woke up and was like meh, they are gonna lose so I'm going back to bed.:p

So...I'm glad that I stayed in bed. :o

A bunch of college kids beating up on pros and would-be pros. Hmmm...where have we seen that movie before??? ;)

Congrats to Team USA, good luck on Saturday.

That game will be at 7:00 AM cst. Much better!

Swedes all over Russia after 1. Shots must have been about 20-1 with the Russians only one being a wrap-around attempt.

If only you still had the Schwartz twins, right? ;)

Re: Team USA--WJC

great win. Nice to see the team is able to score goals (and lots of them). Great to see the gold medal game is at a reasonable hour...now if only my DirecTV coverage had NHL Network...

Re: Team USA--WJC

Hopefully the Swedes will be exhausted or something on Saturday, since barring a minor miracle they are going to roll over the Russians. The way they've been shorthanded all tournament though and still been pretty darn good, it doesn't seem likely. The Russians really haven't been very good this tournament. They barely escaped the Slovaks, they relied on Makarov to beat the US, they got spanked by the Canadians and now they are being dominated by the Swedes.
