Team USA--WJC

Re: Team USA--WJC

Glad my two year old decided not to sleep like he should, so I got to watch the game live. Only dozed off a couple of times, but man, did the US look good.

Hopefully they can bring home the gold!

Re: Team USA--WJC

Hopefully the Swedes will be exhausted or something on Saturday, since barring a minor miracle they are going to roll over the Russians. The way they've been shorthanded all tournament though and still been pretty darn good, it doesn't seem likely. The Russians really haven't been very good this tournament. They barely escaped the Slovaks, they relied on Makarov to beat the US, they got spanked by the Canadians and now they are being dominated by the Swedes.

I wouldn't count out the Rooskies yet. With it being 2-1 at halftime, we have a game.

Re: Team USA--WJC

A definite "Tale of Two Periods." Major momentum switch.

As a coach, I HATE the break between periods when things are going well.

Not sure who I'd rather play. Both of these teams have looked really good at times in this game. Only factor might be that the Russians have been inconsistent through the tourney so far. Although they'd have the home crowd...

Re: Team USA--WJC

UND fans. Housley bench your boy Rocco and you were all up in arms about why a HS coach was picked to lead team USA. Look at him now though. Guess he knew what he was doing after all and Rocco deserved to ride the pine with his selfish attitude. Also, I must say ND's own Grant Potulny was an excellent choice for assistant coach. ;)

Not so sure about that.

With a likely loss to Canada and then a probable crossover game with the #2 seed in the elimination round, USA's chances of medalling are almost certainly gone.

No shame in losing to Russia at home, but the way the brackets were set up, the US needed to steal this game at all costs.

Spot on analysis

Firewagon hockey.

Good fun to watch, especially with no rooting interest.

Too bad Skjei wasn't there to save the day...

For Housley the only thing smarter than benching Rocco was skipping out on playing for the Gophers. Benching Lucia's kid was an excellent move as well.

I didn't turn this thread towards a WCHA p-i-s-sing match, but since we're there for the moment...

How is it that there are only two Minnesota born players on this squad?

Dubbs! How is this possible!?!

P.S. There are also two from Wisconsin, even if one of them was born to a Russian living in Milwaukee.

:p:D:p:D

Shootout up next. As always, what a dumb way to settle a game like this.

Think I'd rather play Sweden. Russia + the home crowd could be tough.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Sweden gets the win and will face the USA. The Rooskies and the Canucks play for the bronze.

Glad to hear it. It wouldn't have seemed right for Russia to need two shootout wins to get to the Gold Medal game and have a huge home ice advantage.

Re: Team USA--WJC

Hopefully the Gold Medal Game has two Canadian refs. With European refs it's likely 107 penalties will be called.
