Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

After that 2-run HR that Beckett just gave up . . . the interesting thing wasn't that the boo birds were as loud as they were. The interesting thing is that the cheers were almost as loud.

Did a bunch of Indian fans invade Fenway? Or are that many people rooting against Beckett?

ETA

Must have been a random crowd mic picking up the cheers. 3rd inning now, and the boos have it.
I think the lack of fannies in the seats are a reason that the sound of the boo birds is muted. Though I tould not put it past NESN to pipe in fake crowd noises in the future, especially if this season heads towards 1962 Mets levels.

Red Sox security tossed him out.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Lester was one of the gang. But management basically said, "Beckett is your role model - do everything he does" back when Beckett played like he gave a damm. Now he's blowing off his work between starts and chugging beers in the clubhouse, so it shouldn't be a surprise that Lester is right there with him. Lester was one of my role models when I was learning to walk again (the guy came back from cancer after all) so I give him more leeway. Without Beckett's influence, I think Lester can still have a very good career. I'm just grateful Beckett wasn't like this when Lester was recovering from the cancer treatment.

Pro: Lester just started a charity for children's cancer.
Con: He called it NVRQT (never quit)

Did anyone else's sarcasm detector just go off?

Kidding aside, I think Lester's a keeper. I'm pretty much done with Beckett. Not ungrateful - he served his purpose. They won a WS. He gave us a few years of Lowell. But he's starting to overstay his welcome.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Reporter: Do people have right to question why you were golfing when you skipped a start?
Beckett: Not on my off day

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Can they afford to eat $40 million or so in Beckett's contract?

There is a historical parallel.... .

Henry: Can someone rid me of this pitiful pitcher?

Cut to baseball game. As Beckett is about to deliver a pitch, a group of knights (of the keyboard) descend upon Beckett and drag him from the scene stage right. Those few in the audience gasp in horror though a few can be seen nodding their heads in approval.

Cut to a scene of a parade. Sign proclaiming Houston Astro 2012 World Series Champions. Beckett in car, wearing shades receiving cheers. from mob.

Cut to scene outside Fenway Park. It is winter. John Henry is naked from the waist up and is lying face down on the steps. Lou Merloni has a switch in his hand...

He said he only gets 18 days off a year. Yeah, he needs to check his calendar. You get that in a season. You then have 3-4 months of doing nothing if you so choose you idiot.

Hey, even employed teachers collect unemployment during the summer... Becks works in the right state at least!! :p

The Final Word from Felger and Mazz includes an ad for the official "Fenway 100 Brown Bag" which I'm sure will be coming soon to a concession stand near you.

I was at the game Thursday and cheered Lowe and even Damon. Booed the hell out of Beckett.

Seats were nice, and cheap since the team sucks:

Pretty nice game yesterday.

I'm tempted to be something like optimistic about the chance for a good weekend . . .
. . . but Masterson is on the mound. And it doesn't matter what kind of season he's having. Seems like every time he starts against Boston, you can pronounce his last name "Lincecum."

Thanks for using my Opposite Girl powers!! :)

Now I'm worried. I have tickets for tomorrow's game. I'm 0-2 so far this season watching in person. On one of those two games, in the prior game the Sox scored a ton of runs and could not score at all the game I was at. And the Mariners beat the Yankees today. I'm not holding out much hope.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Gonzalez said being back at .500 was "awesome". Not the word I would have used. 22-22 at Memorial Day weekend would seem more like "disappointing" or "embarrassing" than awesome. Meanwhile, Bobby V says that he's very proud of his team for playing these 20 days in a row and if they continue they'll win the championship. They went a whopping 11-9 over that 20 day span. Not sure that's going to get it done...

Oh, and noted job creator Curt Schilling is back in the news. After bouncing a million dollar check to the state, he has reportedly laid off every employee for his gaming company. That wipes out those incomes and leaves the taxpayers of Rhode Island on the hook for his loan ($75M+).

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Looks like this is going to be one of those seasons where you (well, me anyway) can't help but to stay invested till the bitter end.

This team has some real flaws. Frankly, so does every other team in the AL East; despite all the garbage to start the season, nobody else took advantage. 3.5 games out, and still in May.

On a related note, I'm not seeing too many articles demanding that the front office kick Beckett to the curb. I guess there are front-runners, and then there are Boston sports writers :p

No offense intended. I'm a sucker, too. (Dials up Dropkick Murphys for drive to office)
