Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

My only hope for optimism is that they don't determine the playoff participants until after the last day of the season.

Priceless - The sellout "streak" is becoming a joke. I can remember when my Dad was flabbergasted that the Sox played to 90% of capacity in the late 70's. NOBODY did that back then.

The Indians are in town on Thursday night -- good seats are still available. Loge 132 Row MM $35 for 2 seats.

Wait for the deals on StubHub. Those tickets will be $20 or less by then. But it's still a sellout! Sean McAdam was on the Felger & Mazz show on Friday and he spelled out that this is actually costing the team money. Since the gate receipts are split with the visiting team receiving a share, if the Sox report 37,500 and only sell 30,000 tickets, the visiting team still wants the revenue from those 7500 tickets. They don't care that the Red Sox "sold" them to StubHub so the precious sellout streak can continue.

oh, so the team is selling unsold seats on stubhub?!?!? get out!!! :D

Selling is one way to put it. Giving them away is another... StubHub isn't in business to lose money. John Henry on the other hand...

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox are all over Twitter saying 5/14 vs Seattle (College Night) is sold out, so they're extending their college discounts to Tuesday. Sold out, meaning there are "only" 4500 tickets on StubHub, for as little as $6. Tickets atop the Green Monster are as low as $200/seat. They must have hired the old Iraqi Information Minister to announce ticket sales.

When are the Sox going to get rid of Beckett? Last Tuesday its announced he is missing his Saturday start. The Thursday inbetween he goes golfing with Bucholz???? Is he serious? He's a ******* and needs to go. He needed to go last offseason.

But who would want him? He's damaged goods with a HUGE contract. It would be difficult to see what team would trade for him now. MAYBE as we get closer to the trade deadline a contender will take a flier on him, but I bet the Red Sox pay the bulk of his salary and get very little back in return. Same with Youkilis.

They should have traded them in the offseason but they didn't.

No word from NESN about the Beckett golfing thing. I bet they're as quiet as possible about the whole thing.

Eat his salary, get a bucket of balls back. I don't care. He is just going to further poison the clubhouse.

The Red Sox aren't going to do that. Not a good business decision.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Fenway Park PA announcer Carl Beane was killed in a one-car accident in Sturbridge.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Right. Keeping that idiot around to influence younger players on the team sounds like a great business decision to me.
Ah, but that's a baseball decision, not a business decision. From a baseball perspective, of course you get rid of him and Youk...but this ownership group isn't interested anymore in baseball decisions. As Tanguay said today on F&M, it would have been too hard to try to move them in the offseason, especially since John Henry was more worried about what was happening in Liverpool (and boy, aren't we Reds fans pleased as punch with his attention) than focusing on Boston. Heck, he didn't even call Carl Crawford until Spring Training when a reporter asked him about it.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

D. Lowe vs. Josh Beckett tonight. Will the Sox turn anyone away who is dressed in Plus Four's???

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have now lost series to KC, Oakland, Baltimore and Toronto. Tampa Bay must be wondering how the hell they lost 3 of 4 to this team.

NESN went with the Bobby V version of the Beckett thing, which is that he wouldn't do anything to jeopardize his season. Bobby V did say that he hadn't talked to Beckett yet because JB19 flew back to Boston ahead of his start tonight. So when it turns out that Beckett did play golf, we'll hear from Bobby V that it's no big deal. You can dry that one out and fertilize the lawn.

I feel bad for Pedroia and a little for Ortiz and Lester. They're stuck on a team with these bums. This team cannot lose enough games. Go 60-102 and expunge the Pink Hats, get ownership who cares about the game between the lines instead of selling bricks and coffee table books and singing Sweet Caroline and the team might get good again. For Will Middlebrooks' own good, I hope he gets sent back to Pawtucket when Youkilis comes off the DL. The last thing we need is for prospects to pick up the habits of these losers.

I saw someone on Twitter suggest that the next throwback jersey they wear should be the 1962 Mets. Maybe they should wear those the rest of the season.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

Uh, wasn't Lester a chicken eater? :D

And when bobby yelled at Youk for being a no care slack, pedie got all nasty and backed his buddy teammate.

They surely ain't angels

Agreed on Pedroia. Valentine should have benched his @ ss for that. I like the way the guy plays, but save the comments for your slacker teammates.

If Middlebrooks keep hitting, want to see how fast Youkilis gets over his "injuries" and gets back into the lineup? This is the hardest team to root for that I've seen in years. Bunch of whiny crybabies who take time off for hangnails and cramps (?).

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

After everything else that's happened, I'm not going to hold one comment against Pedroia. I bet that comment was aimed more at the front office than Bobby V or Youkilis. Pedroia was very close to Francona.

Lester was one of the gang. But management basically said, "Beckett is your role model - do everything he does" back when Beckett played like he gave a damm. Now he's blowing off his work between starts and chugging beers in the clubhouse, so it shouldn't be a surprise that Lester is right there with him. Lester was one of my role models when I was learning to walk again (the guy came back from cancer after all) so I give him more leeway. Without Beckett's influence, I think Lester can still have a very good career. I'm just grateful Beckett wasn't like this when Lester was recovering from the cancer treatment.

Re: Sweet Valentine! The saga of the 2012 Boston Red Sox

After that 2-run HR that Beckett just gave up . . . the interesting thing wasn't that the boo birds were as loud as they were. The interesting thing is that the cheers were almost as loud.

Did a bunch of Indian fans invade Fenway? Or are that many people rooting against Beckett?

ETA

Must have been a random crowd mic picking up the cheers. 3rd inning now, and the boos have it.
