Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

I can get started early on my assistant coaching duties, just ran into a badger player at my hometown bar.

Women don't make the legs weak, its all the running around chasing women, thats what makes the legs weak. ;)

I can't remember the baseball coach, but to paraphrase a quote:

"Players never played bad after a night with a woman; it's the chasing the women the night before that makes them play bad."

In other hockey related news, fingers crossed that ben johnson of calumet will commit to the huskies soon.

I'd like to see Tech hire two to replace one. We need more Ontario connections, and one guy cannot possibly cover all the work.

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

I hope Jamie gets the only call on the new assistant.

He has brought in people from outside that have helped with Kallay and Tok.

Please go get another young motivated hockey talent to add to the coaching staff.

After all the goal next year has to be a winning season !

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

[Tok]...was a finalist for a Minnesota Duluth assistant opening in 2008.

So Tok's been looking to get out of Houghton for several years from the sounds of things. Then I'm glad he's gone one way or another. The last thing Tech needs are people that are not behind the program 100%. When you're trying to rebuild a program, you need everyone giving 100% if you have any chance of making up ground on other programs.

I don't have any names in mind, but I really hope finds another Tech alum to fill the opening. Someone who takes the wins and losses personally and has a vested interest in seeing the program do a 180. I don't know if they can wait until this summer, but with the MTU hockey reunion in August it would be a good time to find a cantidate or at the very least get the hockey alumni worked up about the state of the program and get them involved.

One only had to look at Tok's age and loyalties to know he was just using us as a stepping stone to gain experience. His ties to the USHL were nice to have for the few seasons he was here. We need to find another guy with those kind of ties to the American-born players.

There are already two alums behind the bench (assuming Mikesch doesn't find a new job soon). Having an alum or two behind the bench is good for program stability, but often there are better candidates who played for and/or coached at other programs, and can offer that experience to us.

Russell is going to have a lot of input in hiring someone that he will be supervising and working directly with. Unless there is a perfect candidate who played for Tech, I really hope he considers all of his options when replacing Tok.

Depending on whether you place him "behind the bench" as his job description just changed, there's three counting Randy McKay. It wouldn't utterly surprise me if he regained his volunteer assistant coach position either, if Russell doesn't like any of the candidates right now.

Sorry Randy McKay will not be an assistant. He is enloying coaching his kids....

MTU will have a good group of local kids on the team in a couple of years... This may help with the attendance...

I do hope that at least one of them works out well for the program, because otherwise it's just going to look like another failed attempt to extend an olive branch to the locals when they could've gone after other players.
