Tok to head NAHL franchise
Coleraine native Mike Tok, a Michigan Tech assistant the last four years, has been head coach and general manager of the first-year North American Hockey League team in Austin, Minn. The franchise, owned by Craig Patrick, was admitted to the league in February and begins play in 2010-11.
Tok, 37, played four seasons as a defenseman at the University of Wisconsin from 1991-95 and was in the professional minor leagues from 1995 through 2001. He was an assistant in the U.S. Hockey League for four seasons with Waterloo (Iowa)., and was a finalist for a Minnesota Duluth assistant opening in 2008.
The NAHL-expansion team will play at Riverside Arena in Austin.
