Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Re: Sweet Release: Michigan Tech Offseason Thread Part I

Hoo boy. Well, the dark deed has been done.

From Tech Today:

If we keep going through coaches like this, Tech will never get the kind of cohesiveness and consistency it takes to build a competitive program.

I think this was a huge mistakes. Mostly because now we're just starting from scratch again.

With that being said, a couple years ago I claimed that Tech would win another National Championship before another team from the CCHA did. So far this has held true. But based on this, I am releasing that promise. Tech will quite possibly never win another title until the administration gives a coach enough time to actually build a winning program. Which at this rate will be when my grandchildren are at Tech.

Do any of you really believe this? Or is it a conspiracy to play along?
Your first clue to its non-validity should be the jarring use of the phrase "past glory". There are others.

Oh I get it.

I'm an idiot, Twitch is Twitch, and it's April 1st.

We already have consistency, unfortunately, it's consistently BAD.

What is your definition of "enough time"? Russell has had 7 years! Plot the results, the trend is downward. I gave up on Championships decades ago. I'd be happy with winning seasons and an occasional GLI win, something Russell has been unable to achieve...

All I'm talking about is the two years that's left on his contract.

Trying to win in the WCHA with Tech is like trying to win in the Big Ten at Northwestern.

Northwestern had absolutely no success in the Big Ten or against anybody until they found a way to win in the big ten. They tried to play "Big Ten Football" but they didn't have the talent and couldn't draw it like other Big Ten teams. But under Randy Walker and later Pat Fitzgerald after Randy Walker died they evolved the team into a team that could compete in the Big Ten through an offense that teams didn't see alot.

Northwestern still isn't exactly a powerhouse but they are competitive and are consistently drawing more and more talent, but it took ten years to get that way.

If Northwestern had fired Randy Walker or Pat Fitzgerald after any of the six or seven years they finished last or next to last in the Big Ten, Northwestern wouldn't be in the position they are in now.

I'm all I'm saying is some programs take longer to develop then others. And firing a coach for not winning immediately at Tech is kind of crazy. This is definitely a program that is going to have to be grown and not one you can expect somebody to just step on campus and start winning.

:(
Out of interest, who is running the ship at the Steaming Lode these days?
EIC: Kayla Herrera, Sports: Stephen Anderson.
Next year, almost sort of now: EIC: Stephen Anderson, Sports: in the air, News: well, let's not talk about that...

Um, we're talking about the MTU Lode, not the Daily Bull.
Yeah... fail CTF, fail. How dare you compare the two like that. Not to mention you are retarded for making that mistake since you WORK FOR THE LODE.

Oh, and the Misfits' new VP Mike Metzger is soon to be the new sports guy.

Well if we want to tweak numbers to make a point...
Differential in women's bouncyball last loss -6
Differential in men's hockey last loss -2

So I guess Russell is actually a three times better coach than Barnes. The numbers don't lie...

And in, really, the only thing that matters:
Russell's NCAA Championships - 0
Barnes' NCAA Championships - 0

Tied
