Sunyac 21-22

Geneseo beats Buffalo State, 2-1, outshooting the Bengals, 56-16. Though Geneseo deserved to win, they didn’t make it easy on themselves. Buffalo State did a good job frustrating Geneseo.

Geneseo has done a much better job staying out of the box the last couple games. First game for Andrew Bruno, leading scorer in the GOJHL two years ago. He looked pretty good; definitely a playmaker. If he can bulk up a little and keep improving his skating, he should make a significant contribution to the offense.

Still no box score for the Fredonia game last night...

Plattsburgh scores in the third (and then hits the post a couple of times) and ties Norwich 2-2. Good effort by the Cardinals…

Morrisville beat Potsdam, 4-1, with an empty netter. The turning point in the game was in the second when Potsdam tied it up on a one-timer blast after a turnover. However, on the ensuring face off, Potsdam committed a face off violation, and Morrisville scored on the power play. The momentum never switched back as Morrisville scored early in the third to seal it. Potsdam led in shots, 39-16, with a number of excellent chances. Owen Liskiewicz was a wall in net.

After two, some humdingers. Elmira leads Geneseo, 2-1. Morrisville leads Plattsburgh, 3-2. Fredonia leads Cortland, 2-1. Oswego leads Nazareth, 4-1.

Geneseo no longer unbeaten. Elmira holds on for a 4-3 win.

Cortland comes back to beat Fredonia, 4-2.

Plattsburgh @ Morrisville in OT tied at 3.

And Nazareth has made an amazing comeback, scoring twice in the final 46 seconds, the final one with a second left, to force OT against Oswego.

Plattsburgh defeated Morrisville 4-3 in OT. The goal in OT was Plattsburgh’s only lead in the game having trailed 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2.
Still a tough point to give up to Morrisville.

Not surprised. Elmira always seems to have Geneseo’s number through the years. Something to think on during the winter break.

It was a very entertaining game. The play was pretty equal during the first period, then Geneseo carried the play in the second and third (reflected pretty accurately in the final SOG 41-21). Elmira made the most of their opportunities; Geneseo didn't. Simple as that.

Still a great first half for Geneseo 11-1-1

Postponements and cancellations are taking their toll in the SUNYAC this week.

This past Tuesday, the Buffalo State outdoor game against Chatham was postponed.

This weekend Lebanon Valley will not be making the trip up to the Rochester area. Thus, the Brockport game on Friday is postponed and the Geneseo game on Saturday is cancelled.

In the SUNYAC the minimum is 15 healthy players (3 forward lines, 2 pairs of defenseman and two goalies) for games. I'm not sure if others conferences are different.

On a separate note, has anyone seen any changes to rosters (Additions or Subtractions)? Plattsburgh has added Austin Anselmo D who was on the roster before the pandemic but wasn't on it at the start of the season. I am going to be checking hopefully tonight after work.

I did not know that. That's good to know.

As for this week's cancellations, they were all due to the opponents of the SUNYAC teams. Not laying out blame, because SUNYAC teams have precipitated cancellations in the past. Just letting people know.

And just as I post that, Fredonia cancels this entire weekend of hockey, which was supposed to be a home-and-home series against Chatham. (Fredonia also cancels home men's and women's basketball games against Plattsburgh and Potsdam.)

This allows Buffalo State to reschedule that Buffalo outdoor game against Chatham as an indoor game at Chatham.

The Potsdam home series against Stonehill is pushed out a day. It's now Saturday (7) and Sunday (4) instead of Friday-Saturday.

The flood of cancellations this week at all levels and genders is bringing back nightmares of March, 2020.

It just keeps coming...

St. Anselm drops out of the Plattsburgh tournament. The schedule is now as follows:

Saturday, Jan. 8 – Albertus Magnus vs. King's (Pa.) (5:30 p.m.)

Plus, new spectator rules for Stafford Arena:
  • Masks must be worn at all times and will be strictly enforced
  • Consumption of food or drink is prohibited
  • In an effort to reduce density, admittance into the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena is limited to the following groups: season ticket holders; family of competing student-athletes; SUNY Plattsburgh students, faculty and staff; game personnel; and credentialed members of the media
  • Vaccination against COVID-19, including a booster shot, is encouraged
