Sunyac 21-22

Go figure - Plattsburgh lights them up for a baker's dozen and less than two weeks later, they hold Geneseo to a 2 spot...

More than that. Fredonia also lost to Potsdam the day before Plattsburgh, 6-2. So, they were outscored, 19-3, in one weekend, and since then have won three in a row and put themselves solidly into the home ice playoff race.

After 1 period, Plattsburgh 1, Morrisville 1. Morrisville scored first on a scramble in front of Hearne. Plattsburgh answered late in the period with a shot from the defenseman Doney that popped the visiting goalie's water bottle. The much anticipated Western Michigan transfer Rhett Kingston made his debut tonight. He had a slapshot on goal that got an offensive zone draw but not much else of note yet.

After first scores:
Cortland - 0, Buffalo State - 0 (this period took about 23 minutes to play)
Fredonia - 1, Oswego - 0 (did Fredonia make an actual deal with a blue devil after the humiliation in the North Country?)

After second scores:
Cortland - 1, Buffalo State - 0
Fredonia - 4 (on eight shots), Oswego - 1 (seriously, what has Fredonia been drinking since being outscored 19-3 in two games? Seriously!)

Final scores:
Cortland - 4, Buffalo State - 0 (Cortland maintains home ice spot)
Fredonia - 5, Oswego - 4 (two extra attacker goals; Flabbergasted is my favorite word. I am absolutely flabbergasted)

Let's recall Fredonia's last five games:
Lost to last place Potsdam, 6-2.
Lost to Plattsburgh, 13-1.
Beat receiving votes Brockport, 4-0.
Beat #2 Geneseo, 3-2.
Beat #12 Oswego, 5-4.
That's what makes sports great - sports makes no sense.

I am flabbergasted. 5 goals on 13 shots. Turnovers or just crappy tending? On our side, stifled for goals again, until the waning moments.

And their are so many variables in hockey that can tip the balance on any given day.

I'd love to be at that Fredonia v Cortland game...

Geneseo beats Morrisville, 10-1. Geneseo clinches the number one seed (even though they have one game left) and Oswego takes the number two seed.
