Subway Holiday Classic (Miami, North Dakota, tOSU, Bemidji)

Re: Subway Holiday Classic (Miami, North Dakota, tOSU, Bemidji)

Chay is out this weekend.

What were the consequences for the player who hit Genoway? Suspension for some length of time? In situations like that (eggregious hit from behind) I am an advocate for Old Testement punishment (sort of an eye for an eye): The player responsible for the injury cannot play until the player they injured can play. If that is never (God forbid), then so be it. You are done for ending a kids career. Otherwise you are sitting until the person you injured comes back.

The WCHA league office under the leadership of McLeod is a joke. McLeod was asked about this hit last weekend between the second and third period by Tim O'Keefe and he basically said that he doesn't like to suspend players more than a game and apparently the hit on Chay didn't reach that threshold.

Well that is unfortunate, the hit was nasty but you can't say for sure if it was intentional. Rules are in place and they were inforced. I for one am not in favor of a league stepping in and adding additional suspension on hits like that. There are cases when additional suspensions should be handed out, i.e starting brawls, leaving the bench/penalty box, or match penalties.

I understand the aggrevation because it is one of your players, but it happens around the country and we have had them on us this year. Part of the game, but it is unfortunate.

The rules are not enforced consistently in the WCHA, maybe they are in the other leagues like the CCHA and the ECAC (Paul Stewart is the head of officials in the ECAC he is beloved and respected). Not intentional. Really! So how did you deduce this? Really, as an opposition player I can chase my opponent up the ice and plant his head in the board with my elbow when the player doesn't even have the puck. So all I deserved is a 5/10 and the game, nothing else. It’s official RedHack can ref in the WCHA or run the main office. Nah son I am not buying it.

Consider this scenario: Two officials do such a shoddy job of officiating they receive a suspension for this weekend from the League office but the league office denies or fails to release this information in a press release, the league office also lies to the UND beat writer about suspension. How much credibility do you think the league office has?

I also like some say oh that's unfortunate... Of course we know these same fans are hoping one of their players are killed on the ice this weekend due to a shoddy performance by the on ice officials. If you see Don Adam skate onto the ice in a WCHA arena this weekend be very afraid.

Well said, Goon. Sooner or later the WCHA will have to start handing out 5-10 game suspensions to send a message. A one game suspension sends a message to players that you can downright maul somebody in this league and get a slap on the wrist. It's clearly obvious when he skates the length of the ice after Chay that he wants to hit him, and the injury was the result.

anyone know a good clip of the hit? i'm trying to see it for myself but can only find a 10 second one that just shows the impact. and a hit he apparently took to UMD last year as well

Can anybody confirm that the UND game is being aired on FCS Atlantic tonight? As of right now, it does not appear to be listed.

I can confirm, it is listed on my programming.

Great win by bemidji. Good effort by Miami to come back and nice work by bemidji to bounce back after blowing the lead. Game was a dandy, and look forward to tomorrow.

By rule those hits should require a 5 and a game DQ which comes with an additional game suspension. If that wasn't enforced then that is the officials fault. If it was given then the rule was enforced, I wasn't talking about the whole game just how it should be handled. It's tough to throw out additional suspensions on a hit when you can't say with complete certainty that it was intentional.

As for the leagues, IMO, they should only step in and hand down additional suspensions on intentional actions. Such as instigating a fight, leaving the bench/penalty box, or match penalties like swinging sticks etc.

Im not saying this because its UND, we have had a couple hits like that against us this year. It's a grey line, only way to change it is to changed the rule or allow fighting to hold guys accountable.

Re: Subway Holiday Classic (Miami, North Dakota, tOSU, Bemidji)

what a great game! Got home from work for the 1st intermission, so i didn't see the 1st Period. But it was pretty even for the half of Period 2. Miami really started to take control of the game the latter part of the 2nd. Great to see the guys come back from 2 down. Great goal by BSU for the game-winner. Defender had a body on him, but still punched through. I put that one on Reichard for giving up the juicy 'bound in front of the net. great effort by both teams - as expected. Nice way to kick off the weekend. Gearing up to watch the second game now.

Good luck to BSU for the rest of the season.

GO HAWKS!!!!

Re: Subway Holiday Classic (Miami, North Dakota, tOSU, Bemidji)

Way to go BEMIDJI STATE!!! Keep it up tomorrow!!! I wish I could have been in Grand Forks this weekend to cheer BSU on! LETS GO BEAVERS!!!

Yesterday the game was listed on FCS Atlantic channel 617. Then on game day it was switched over to channel 623. I'm not sure why, but this kind of thing seems to happen a lot with FCS?

By rule those hits should require a 5 and a game DQ which comes with an additional game suspension.
After the Robbie Bina hit the rule was mandatory 5 and game misconduct, not DQ. The last year or so they have added a 2:00 minor for CFB, so it's the ref's discretion.

IMO, it should be 5/game...with an option for a DQ. All DQ's should be reviewed by the league to see if additional games should be added on on a case by case basis.

Nice job Beavers and Sioux.
Hope to see more of the same tomorrow. :)
