You'll enjoy the Summit Series, but personally I really got a kick out of HBO's documentary on the Philadelphia Flyers, and in particular, the segment on the 1976 NHL series against the Russians.
As I recall, the Russian Red Army team had basically clobbered 2 or 3 of the top NHL teams, in their own rinks, on the 1976 tour. Their last stop was Philadelphia. NHL President, Clarence Campbell, who hated the Flyers and their physical style of play, allegedly visited the Flyers in their locker room before the game and basically told the Flyers to go out and do what they do best.
After a particularly vicious hit on Kharlamov, the Soviet coach pulled his team off the ice, at which point Ed Snider (the Philadelphia owner) told the Russians, no play, no pay. Oddly enough, the Soviets came back out for the rest of their butt-kicking.
