St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

all this SOG talk, Lets take a look at the 2012 frozen four

Amherst had 44 shots on goal to Oswego's 27 in their 2012 Frozen Four game, Oswego won. Norwich had 27 shots to St. Norbert's 23, St. Norbert Won. In the final Oswego had 30 to St. Norbert's 25, St. Norbert won. the lower shots on goal team every game.

I'll probably get some heat for this, but I watched every game of the frozen four that year and Amherst looked like the best team by far. St. Norbert looked like the worst of the 4 but won it all. Sometimes you get lucky breaks sometimes you don't.

What? St. Norbert won both games 4-1. Even if you think Amherst and Oswego were better, and I'm not saying they were, Norwich certainly wasn't shot count or no shot count. Norwich quit in that game midway through the second period and anyone who thinks otherwise certainly isn't being honest with himself. In the championship, Oswego basically had two majors (two stretches of 4 minute PP) and didn't score in second period. They outplayed SNC in the second in that one but still came up short in the pay window after not scoring despite 8 minutes of PP time. I would think SNC's kill and goalie had something to do with that.

There are two ends to the rink. Those that excel in the defensive end usually won't appear to be as $exy as those that spend more time in the offensive end.

Ran out of gas, yes. Quit, no.

So you're saying Norwich ran out of gas in their biggest game of the year halfway through it? Wow. That seems to be a stretch for any team to be not conditioned at that point in the season where they're out of juice 30 minutes in. If you say so though. It must be a shame to have that happen against the worst team in the tournament.

I certainly never said SNC was the worst team in the tournament.
So, you think it is a stretch that a team would run out of gas, and would rather believe that they quit playing in a national semi-final game???
Riiight.

Apologies to the SNC fan base for my momentary diversion here. I'll just back out now....

Yes I do think it's a stretch. Norwich played one game in the tournament prior to Lake Placid with a walkover over Wentworth. St. Norbert had to play St. Thomas and Gustavus over a four day stretch just to get to LP. If anyone should have run out of gas in that game it would have been St. Norbert.

Nubs, I agree with you. How can a hockey team run out of gas in a game like this ? Specifically, a team made up of military cadets.

I also am dismayed that military cadets could possibly toss in the towel 30 minutes into the game. :o

However, either theory would explain why they aren't attending West Point.

You should really do your homework before you speak. I am not a Norwich fan, but I do know that for the last few years there have been very few "Cadets" on the team. As a matter of fact I think George Como said earlier this year there are none on the team. I am not sure how many were on the teams in Lake Placid, but I am sure not many.

Off the top of my head I think Klinger was the only cadet on NC team.

There is one on the team currently. #22 Dean Niezgoda

Well then, my most sincere apology to the 'actual cadet(s)' that played in that game for the Norwich Cadets.

It looks like this thread is no longer about SNC.

So Adrian is coming to town for 2, eh?

Biggest series of the 2013-14 NCHA conference schedule coming up this weekend @ the CCC...How many Adrian fans are making the trip around the bottom of Lake Michigan??
What's up with Shelby Gray...do not see him in the Adrian lineup for last four games??

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Shelby's injured.

I will not be in DePere. The combination of tax season and working the two Women's varsity games this weekend kinda takes care of that.

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Wish I could make it. These should be great games to watch live.

Re: St. Norbert 2013-14 - a new mountain to climb on the way back to the top

Wow. Just wow. Great win.

I never saw an 11-1 win coming. Heck, when it was 7-0 I said I didn't expect that many goals in the game combined.

SNC did a great job of pushing the puck up the ice quickly and taking lots of shots. It was a shooting gallery at times. Just shot, shot, shot, shot. Very aggressive and quick up the ice. It was fun to watch.

Defensively, Adrian just couldn't break out of the zone. Cross ice passes went nowhere. Adrian's pp had good puck movement and control but not lots of great shots.

Special teams were outstanding. Five pp goals and a shorty? Wow...

I think the 2-0 lead was huge. And then SNC just didn't let up, which was also key. I think that was simply one of the most dominating performances against a high-level team I have seen in 25 years of SNC hockey.

Can't imagine we will see the same Bulldog squad tomorrow. Another quick start would help.
