Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well, I do think it is fair to call the venerable Wally on this to some extent. I thought as a general rule that Ms. O'Brien did a panoramic view and provided that as the official attendance figure without counting? How they do it now? By the book? Same way? As far as I am concerned, there are two different size crowds - with students and without. Since Greg was mentioning this, some students due sit accross from the primary student section where chicken man sat. I miss the days where students had to sit where the could or stand. To that end, better job scheduling this year so that students are there for most home games - except January. They provide a definite lift. Hope the funk the boys played with this week is figured out and disposed of. That was painful to watch at times.

They now count the crowd with a clicker at each door and provide the total for the box score, etc. in the third period.

I walk in the back door and trust me, they don't count anything. Both nights this weekend, she grabbed my money, handed me my ticket and continued on with the next person that walked in the door. They didn't even rip off the stub of the ticket which could possibly be used for counting as well. Maybe at the front door, which is the main door, they do this but I have never seen them do this at the back entrance and most students and most of the GA's use the back door entrance. In fact, with students, they just flash their ID card and are waved through one by one.

They did not take the stub of my ticket either night at the back entrance. Don't care how SLU does it, but just STOP (please) under-stating attendance. Guess SLU no longer wants it known that its rink has a larger capacity than its enrollment. We used to call Union the 40%'er's (see Roger Hull); I'm going to start calling us the 70%er's (close enough to 2/3) based on how we list attendance.

I know the feeling, trust me. It irritates me to no end when I see the box score after every game and see what they list our attendance figures at. We both know from having been to most every game that the arena is packed and these numbers cannot possibly be correct.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

2 things to mention:

1. I'm glad we don't have any poisons in our group here, for an example, look at the RPI threads.

2. It seems the RIT fan base is teetering very close to the edge of the cliff. Shame to see, although I guess when you grow accustomed to teams in the top 3 year in and year out, along with a trip to the frozen four recently, any setback can be disappointing.

1. Brandon......ask yourself what our thread would be like it we lost home and away games in one weekend to Clarkson. That's the equivalent of what the RPI fans just went through.

2. Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes your the bug!

It's worse than losing the home and home to Clarkson. Imagine that you'd lost ten straight games to Clarkson in the last three years including a playoff series. I don't like all the drama that's going down in the RPI thread but people are bound to be incredibly frustrated after this weekend.

I get that, and it very well could happen in a few weeks. That's a pretty good team down the road, and I suspect they'll both be great rivalry games. Puck luck and staying out of the box will be even more important than usual.

My point was really the fact that, while losing X amount in a row to your rival is obviously frustrating/disappointing/leaves you searching deep for answers; that's a pretty darn good club down route 7. Both teams are going to be in the mix come march, and possibly beyond. It's just the theatrics of a couple posters makes me glad that while our group can be critical at times, we don't embarrass ourselves in doing so.

We have lost 10 straight to Clarkson before in the past (hockeyplayers reference below to Burke Murphy's goal in 1996 ended that 10 game streak). In fact, this has happened on multiple occasions :p ;)

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Well, back to this weekends games ... What does everyone expect? Will the offense continue to be hot, will a goaltender step up and take the reins? Should be interesting!

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Done.

Now, Jeff Cox: How come SLU-Clarkson is listed below "Other" on your poll? Notwithstanding that disadvantageous position, SLU v. CCT is winning this poll going away.

When you write the article about these results, (you're going to do that, right?) you might want to mention that Union has only been D-1 only since about 1980. SLU v. Clarkson goes back to the 1920's. That's an extra 50+ years of rivalry.

Everyone else: Not that I would ever advocate it, but if you wanted to, you could vote again -- on your phone and your iPad without killing any cookies in the process.

When I voted, Clarkson-SLU was not on the ballot and I voted for "OTHER". That is the reason it is below "OTHER". I would change my vote to CCT-SLU if I could.

Re: St Lawrence Hockey

Could you repeat that one more time. :)

Vic
You ought to see me try to answer my cell phone...I somehow pocket-dialed the FACSTAFF list with an email which contained the letter E and absolutely nothing else!
